Anyone helped their local school with outdoor education and medical protocols? Our local school has an aggressive outdoor education program with many trips, multinight camping/hiking, rafting, etc - and they want me to be part of an advisory board for implementing medical protocols that would be used on these outdoor education trips.

They are putting together protocols for basic wildness medicine care by teachers (with some basic training) and formalizing information to review, etc.Basic care and when to transfer the student to civilization for definitive care.

The school is using protocols derived through NOLS http://www.nols.edu/ (no sense in reinventing the wheel). The mission of the National Outdoor Leadership School is to be the leading source and teacher of wilderness skills and leadership that serve people and the environment.Anyone had experience with type of involvement? It has been awhile since I was in the program with my son, but you might want to look at the scout program recomendations.  They have had years of experience.
