Woo hoo!  Exactly 2 months after we attested....and it was worth every minute of learning about, freaking out about, discussing, and making tweaks to our practice flow!  It's really not as hard as you think it might be....

Good luck to everyone who is attesting this year!!

unfortunately the medicare advantage plans are only an advantage to the insurers.they do not count for us in RIbut it also might be too late (unless you have been checking the little boxes diligently all along) to try for this yeartakes 3 months of accruing data.apparently if you start next year you stand to make as much as starting this yearTo: From: wenliang818@...Date: Thu, 27 Oct 2011 22:01:45 -0700Subject: Re: MU $ Received!!

I am trying to decide if attest this year or next. Since I opened practice this year, I thought not enough medicare flow. Roughly counted today, maybe worthy the try. MU is medicare allowable, with the Max formula. I have a question to the group:

Would Medicare supplemental insurance count? In CA, like Anthem Freedom Blue Plan? Also 2ndary insurance? My assumption is they should count. The 2nd insurance is easy since Medicare knows about them. Will Medicare also know about the amount of supplemental insurances? If so, it will be easier to be close to the Max.

Thanks,Wen

That's wonderful karen. I actually finally after much stress completed mine too.

Anthem Freedom Blue (Medicare Advantage) does not count.  Only regular Medicare.  It is based on allowable, which includes the deductible and coinsurance that the secondaries pay.  Go back and add up your allowables for your straight Medicare patients.  The year 1 bonus is 75% of that.  Just starting your practice, you might want to wait until next year to try to get the max.  2012 is the final year to apply to get the full bonus of $44K.  Our plan is to attest this year (done!) and next year ($12k for year 2) and then wait and see what the Stage 2 requirements are going to be in 2014 to see if we think it's worth doing.  I think the year 3 bonus is $8000 and the Stage 2 requirements will supposedly increase our requirements and practice flow changes will be required.

Many thanks Lynn and .

I was planning to start next year. But some people are saying who knows if the fund will run out sooner than the government says. Many things to work on while starting a practice. Now finally some time to look at MU.

Thank you again.

Wen
