There is very little distinction between Cool Whip, Lite, and Free. In fact, I think the Free has more calories. I'll be sure to look next time at the market. I do know that the carb/sugar count is the same between regular and Lite.
Guest guest
Back around Christmas time, when I was label reading on this kind of stuff, I concluded that Cool Whip was not going into this lady's fridge! Instead, I use pressurized whipped cream which you can get regular or lite (on the fat). It seems to work pretty well in recipes. (And as a topping -- but the Tbsp are *never* level, I fear!) :-0( The ingredients just seem to be more natural than in the cool-whip varieties. I prefer the Hood brand when I can get it. It seems a bit less expensive. Guest guest
For the few times a year that we use whipped cream I just do it myself...that way I know exactly what I put in it. Instead of sugar I use Splenda with a little vanilla extract for a flavor boost. Most folks don't stop to carefully examine the labels. Elva's Canadian label is more realistic in giving a suggested serving size of 4 Tbsp. rather than the fake-low of 2 Tbsp. in the U.S. (which cuts the fat, carbs, etc., in half). Elva gave the witches' brew ingredients from her container. Here's similarly-scary stuff from mine ... water, corn syrup, hydrogenated vegetable oil (coconut, palm kernel), high-fructose corn syrup, flavors, modified food starch, sodium caseinate (milk derivative), xanthan and guar gums, polysorbate 60, polysorbate 65, sorbitan monostearate, sodium hydroxide, beta carotene (coloring). Guest guest
That Cool Whip stuff is evil I find it just as easy to throw some whipping cream into a blender, with some splenda and vanilla, and whirl it for a minute or two. Sometimes I blend a couple of strawberries first for flavour and then add the whipping cream (a little goes a long way). And sometimes I add some cocoa powder. And when I'm being really decadent, I will put in some cream cheese too.
Guest guest
Yes, I totally agree with you, . Heavy cream in the blender takes just a little time, and is so so much better tasting, not to mention healthier :-) The cream cheese thing sounds awesome!
