Guest guest
, Hi, and welcome to the group....we're glad you found us too! My name is Jen, and I'm 33 years old. I was diagnosed with Fibro in April of 2003. I also have SI joint dysfunction, a bulging disc, and full body tendonitis. Fibro IS such a battle, isn't it? Especially during those extreme weather months! My symptoms got really bad this past winter too (my first winter with Fibro), so I'm really dreading the coming of THIS winter! My primary care doc says that winter is really hard on a lot of Fibromites....the extreme cold makes us unconsciously tense up (when we shiver), and that in turn triggers muscle spasms and knots. It also makes joints and tendons hurt worse. I could have cried when spring came this year...it was such a blessed relief! But even now, as the weather starts to get cooler here in Ohio, my body is starting to stiffen up more and more, and I'm getting more dependent on my massage therapist. I'm so sorry that you feel like you can't discuss what is going on in your life with the people in your life. That's a very hard situation to be in. But do know that while they can't understand exactly what you are going through, with the proper knowledge about what Fibromyalgia is, they can become a good support network. They'll never KNOW your pain, but they can know that you are IN pain. My husband has gotten to know the " look " of a flare very well. At first, I think he kind of doubted the reality of my pain, and it's severity, until one morning when I was having some pretty bad muscle spasms in several areas of my body. He could see and feel them, and he had to watch my whole body draw up around the ones in my back. He had to get my TENS unit and meds, and laid there with me until I got them under control, which took about 45 minutes. He got an in-depth look, and a lot more understanding that day. He's also rubbed huge knots out of my shoulders and back. Most family and friends don't understand until they go through something like that with you. I hope you feel welcome here. There are definitely plenty of people who understand how you feel, and are more than willing to lend an ear, or a shoulder to lean on! Take care of yourself, and I look forward to getting to know you! All my best, Jen

I understand how hard winter can be on everything. I am a single-mom of a 7-yr-old. I am 31 myself (will be 32 in Dec) and work as a graphic designer. I was dx last year but have had fibro a lot longer. If you don't mind my asking, where are you located?
