Guest guest
Hi , Depression is a common, and recognized, side effect of hormone therapy, although very few men will openly admit to that. It is also a very common aspect of the diagnosis of PCa – or any other potentially fatal disease. Dr Snuffy Myers, a well known prostate cancer specialist says that in his opinion it is one of the most under-diagnosed aspect of the disease. From personal experience I can recommend that your husband seeks all the professional help he can – even though no doubt he will resist it. In discussions on Lists like this many men have derided me for taking this attitude using phrases such as “suck it up” “Get on with your life” “snap out of it” to indicate that REAL men don’t need any help. I acknowledge freely that it may be possible to overcome depression without professional help, in the same way as it may be possible to remove a decaying tooth or set a broken limb without professional help. But in all three cases the end result is likely to be better if one gets help. Guest guest
I don't consider them too bad, but I am not too easily annoyed! They ususally come around the same time eveyday, 8:00am, 10:30 pm, 4:00am and more.I found that if you constantly have air moving around you they come less often, are less intense and don't last as long. I keep a fan on my desk at work and several strategically located throughout the house! For sleeping you can also look into a 'Chillow', just Google it. It's a water pillow, didn't do much for me but others swear by it. Guest guest
:I think you are lucky! My hot flashes are very intense and long lasting. My oncologist, yesterday prescribed effexor for me saying that it may help the hot flashes and will improve my attitude some. If the effexor does not work, we will add a depo provera to the mix.Dick Hicks wrote: how bad are the hot flashes ? is that the only side effect ? --- Emerson <davidemersonswbell (DOT) net> wrote: > If you mean Casodex? Guest guest
Dick - Yet another thing that drives me crazy with modern medicine; a drug to deal with the side effects of a drug that is dealing with the side effects of the inital drug!~~~~~~~~~~~~On a personal note; we saw our new Oncologist yesterday and chemo is postponed (yipee!!) He wants me to stop the Casodex first, have a blood test in two weeks, then four weeks later. If there is no change we will first try 'ketoconazole' as they has show some limited success is controlling rising PSA #'s. After that, it's chemo for sure.--- Anyone have experience taking ketoconazole for PC? Guest guest
Are you sure it isn't Casodex? I take the pills & I also get the hormone shot every 6 months. The only depression I get is the thought of Dying in 1-3 years. That is hard for me. But I am a Christian & I believe the Lord will heal me. --- Jim Manley's Photoshop Elements Page http://www.geocities.com/jim_p_manley/index.html http://web.mac.com/jamespmanley http://www.myspace.com/james_paul_manley I have been diagnosised with advanced prostate Cancer (Gleason rating of 9) and I am convinced that the Lord Jesus Christ (GOD) will heal me as a testimony to his love. 2 Chronicles 20 > just wondering if any of you on hormone therapy, particularly > Calodex had depression and or weakness while taking the drug? > Thanks > susan

Guest guest
Does just control the PSA or does it reduce the tumors as well? --- Jim Manley's Photoshop Elements Page http://www.geocities.com/jim_p_manley/index.html http://web.mac.com/jamespmanley http://www.myspace.com/james_paul_manley I have been diagnosised with advanced prostate Cancer (Gleason rating of 9) and I am convinced that the Lord Jesus Christ (GOD) will heal me as a testimony to his love. 2 Chronicles 20 > 'ketoconazole' as they has show some limited success is controlling > rising PSA #'s.
