Hi

I work as a chaplain ship

I meet ill people and I offer them spiritual practice

My " mentor " is byron katie

and I feel that is not apropriate at times

when I come to the hospital, meet the family

and see all this suffering around there beloved one

who is about to die

to offer the work, it is as if I am not being ampathic to there pain

Anyway, my stress thought is that

I have a job to do something meaningfull every time I meet

the person I acompany

and I am stressed, being " affraid " that I will not be abale to do

that.

, can you give me an advice?

Did you do the work on that one ever?

taking reponsibility on other people respond to a meeting with me?

by the way,

do you remmber me?

Tami, from Israel

Hi Tami,

I'm not clear if you are looking for replies from the group to this -

if you are, mine is below.

If you are not looking for replies, please ignore it.

My advice is to do the work on the belief that you have to do

something meaningful every time you meet the person you accompany.

You could also get really specific about what " meaningful " means to

you - what are you making up that you should be doing.... relieving

suffering, making a difference, improving things?

I know how stressful it is for me when I believe I have to make a

difference, have an impact, etc, etc, etc.

Even believing that someone else needs my help - ouch.

With love and thanks,

Jon

Sweetheart,

I have a job to do something meaningfull every time I meet the person

I acompany. Is that true?

Loving you.

What do you mean?

Why else would they pay me?

Tami,

In terms of the work, it's not about why they pay you, it's whether

this concept causes you stress - that you have to do something

meaningful every time you meet the person.

If it doesn't, no need to inquire into it.

And if it does, you can inquire into it if that feels right - who

knows what might be on the other side.

I've just had a thought that without this concept of " meaningful " you

might be able to be with the person, have fun and both enjoy the time

together - or maybe this is just for me when I believe I've got to do

something " meaningful " .

With love and thanks,

Jon

Ok, try this one then:

They pay me because I do something meaningfull every time I meet a

person. Is it true?

The truth is that they don't pay me

I volunteer

but if I weren't doing it for free

I expect myself to return there investment
