Guest guest
Thanks for saying what I have wanted to say to Wayne for a long time, but I know he is a stubborn old fart, and sometimes he just needs to be hit in the head to get his attention. I hope he listens to you, and Wayne, I sincerely do hope you get rid of that stubborn streak, but I will say you have the right to do with your life as you please. Choose life, please. wayne message for you > Wayne, no matter what you do, or have to do, or how you have to do it, what medications you use, keep your pre meal sugar 80 and your two hour post meal sugar 120 or less. If you do that, I can guarantee that your diabetic complications will reduce and you can live a long and productive life. There is no reason Wayne for you to have to have so much torture from the diabetes. You can do it Wayne, just use some of the information we are sharing with you on list. I know you have read our information, I know you know that what we are saying works, you see our blood work and blood sugar results by low carbing, so please, consider doing it Wayne. I recall reading a post from you that stated you would not eat like a rabbit, implying that low carbing was not for you. However Wayne, whatever you are doing now is 100% not working. Guest guest
Call your doctor and find out what number of units of Lantus you took. It sounds like you are happy with your 70/30, which is the same insulin my son was on before I got him to switch. My son's glucose level is also out of control until he started on Lantus and Humalog. The doctor almost killed my son, because he started my son out on 20 units of Lantus, and my son experienced the exact same reaction you had; a very low sugar level, which was not good for him at all, and required a visit to the emergency room. I on the other hand took the advice of the members of this group by starting out with a low number of units of Lantus and building the units up depending on my glucose readings taken several times a day for every day of the week and month. The number of units I take now would probably kill a type 1 diabetic. I started with taking 5 units of Lantus, and today I take 30 units of Lantus at night. For meal carb consumption I cover these carbs with Humalog. I suffer with insulin resistance, which requires a lot more units of insulin to keep my glucose levels normal. In my opinion Lantus and Humalog would give you better predictability and control over your glucose levels, but it will require you to do frequent monitoring; at least six times per day for a pre-meal sugar reading and a two hour post meal reading in the beginning until you master control, which can be done in two to three months time with expert guidance like I got from fellow list members. You can keep rolling the dice or plenty of help is available here. wayne message for you > > > > > > Wayne, no matter what you do, or have to do, or how you have to do it, > what medications you use, keep your pre meal sugar 80 and your two hour post > meal sugar 120 or less. Guest guest
if you were low in the morning wayne that was because the lantus needed cut back a few units. You should not have went off it because of a low blood sugar although I do understand your fear of going low in the middle of the night. However, to make certain you did not go low again from going on lantus all you had to do is get up at 3 AM and see what your sugar was and if it was getting low, eat 1 glucose tablet and back to bed. This would have probably only needed to be done 2 times to get the level of lantus correct. If you were useing older R insulin or the 70/30 it has very strong peeks as well so the lantus may have not been the problem. I'm simply concerned about your decline in the diabetes and want to help if you want our help. So, let me and Harry know if you want us to help you. We are here if you want our help. I am 100% convinced that you can get an a1c level of 5.0 to 5.5 by using lantus and humalog to keep your sugars under control. BTW I am sorry if you did not say eating like a rabbit, perhaps that was another person in the past on list and I thought it was you. Sorry. Please hear my heart here Wayne I am concerned man. I want to help if you will let me help. Guest guest
better control is *not* tight control Wayne. There is a keen difference. You need to get back on lantus and humalog for carbs. The only way you can go low and pass out is if you *do not* check your sugar 2 hours past eating after taking humalog. We are willing to help teach you carb counting, are you willing to join us and you/me/Harry tackle your diabetes and kick its rear end? Guest guest
yup. Wayne it is simple. if your doctor starts you at 10 units of lantus for example, only take 5 units and get up at 3 am and check your sugar. if it is low eat 1 glucose tablet that will raise your blood sugar 20 points and go back to bed. I.E if you are 50 eat 2 glucose tablet and you will be at 90. if it is not low, go back to bed and then when you get up in the morning check your sugar. You should only have to do this 2 or 3 times to get your lantus correct. So, get back on lantus and use humalog to cover carbs... listen to what harry is telling you. We can help you man. Also, don't eat orange juice, candy, etc. for lows *only* eat glucose tablets since they let you know you are eating a 15 to 20 point raise in your sugar. It lets you accurately predict what your sugar will raise. You can pick up a bottle of 50 glucose tablets for 5 bucks at wallmart. Guest guest
Dear and Wayne, Love is not a feeling. It is a decision. you clearly made a decision to help one of your fellow human beings. It took courage, tenacity, caring and skill. You told the truth and it hurts to give and to get. You are such a trustworthy friend and you too Harry and all who tell the truth. Hugs and prayers of thanksgiving for folks like you! That goes for Pat too who pointed out to me I was eating too darn much. I needed that. Guest guest
Hi, I went and saw the endocrinologist today and they are starting me on 46 units of Lantis. I've been listening to your comments about Lantis and I'm frankly worried. What should I do? I was taking Ultralente but my readings at bedtime were high. They are trying to get me more under control but after listening to you I'm frankly worried. Again, what should I do? Guest guest
I don't know the dosage equivalent of Ultralente compared to Lantus, but as a general rule I would start low and build to what is needed. While the high glucose levels will not kill you if you run high for several days or even a few weeks, low blood sugar levels are definitely a no, no! How much Ultralente were you taking each day? I would recommend you post here daily with your medication doses and carbohydrate gram cosumption each meal until we get a handle on it, and we can make better recommendations. What insulin are you taking to handle meals? Do you have glucose tablets on hand? I started with 5 units ofLantus insulin at night and now take 30 units ofLantus at night. Slowly but surely the dose was increased over a three month period. I avoided extreme lows and a run to the hospital, which is always desireable. I think you can do it, too. I would make a conservative recommendation start of 5 units of Lantus at night, but I am very conservative. An overdose of medication is always more dangerous than an underdose. wayne message for you > > > > > > > > > > > > Wayne, no matter what you do, or have to do, or how you have to do > > it, > > > what medications you use, keep your pre meal sugar 80 and your two > hour > > post > > > meal sugar 120 or less. Guest guest
I was taking 42 units of Ultralente. I never bottomed out and the lowest I got down to was 50 or 60. I'm still in the 200 range sometimes. My a1c is now down to 7.7 coming down from 11 or a little higher. I'm certainly feeling better but want to do much better. I'm still eating too many carbs I'm sure. I wish I didn't love to eat those sweets so darned much. I'm doing so much better though and I'm getting on my stationery bike after dinner which seems to be helping. The doctor says that carb counting is too overused. I don't think I believe that judging from what you all have shown on this list and I have been watching for a long time. So, I think I'd rather take the experts recommendations. Guest guest
I say just take the 46 units and get up at 3 AM and check your sugar. This way, you will catch any low sugar adn eat a few glucose tablets adn back to bed with peace of mind. Alternatively, I'd say cut the lantus back to 38 units from 46 and still get up at 3 AM to check your sugar. When you get up in the morning, check your sugar as well. If it is above 70 but below 120 then your good. So, do this for 3 days and loose a little sleep and your good for the rest of your life. I.E get up at 3 am get tested, if you are not low, back to bed. Get up in the morning get checked, if you are not in the range 70 to 120, then increase the lantus by a unit or 2. Make sense? Guest guest
Wayne. I am so convinced that me and Harry could get your sugars regulated in 3 weeks that I'd put money down on it. If you did exactly what me and Harry suggested for you to do for the next three weeks, your blood sugars would be regulated and you would feel great. I'd put money down on it. So, you up for the challenge? Guest guest
, I read this message and just have to tell you the incredible blood sugars I am having because of your help. I am getting so close to perfect and the medical professionals could never do this with me. I hope you can help Wayne as you have helped me. keep up the good work. best regards and thanks again, from Canada wayne message for you > Wayne, no matter what you do, or have to do, or how you have to do it, what medications you use, keep your pre meal sugar 80 and your two hour post meal sugar 120 or less. You are always in/out of the hospital, medical staff at your house, you lost your leg, have had kidney problems, your health is quickly declining, etc. All this is a result of not using modern techniques and strategies to fight diabetes. There is no reason you have to experience this type of difficulty with your diabetes. > > Please consider changing your ways and letting us here help you. It is your life we want to help you spare Wayne. > > I don't care if no one else will be this frank with you, I will be Wayne. I care about you and want you to live a productive life. I've seen nothing but health declineing posts from you and it is scareing me. You are quickly heading to the grave and don't have to at all. Let me be blunt... stop being stubborn, you know what we are saying is true, just consider doing it and changing Wayne. I am shooting from the hip to you Wayne because I care about your health and I can see you dieing in the next 2 years if you don't change immediately. > > you are on older insulins that are not effective and you need to get on lantus and humalog to help with the carbs, learn how to carb count, and stop letting this diabetes rule your life, you can start to rule it via modern techniques and medications and reverse the onset of the complications you are starting to have. > > Please let me know your thoughts on my email to you, I'd like to know what you think. Again, I'm not trying to upset you, I'm trying to offer some friendly encouragement. I'm extremely serious when I say within the next 2 years you could die and I base this hunch off the onset of complications you are having simply from not controlling your blood sugars. I am certain you try Wayne, it is just the medications and strategies you are using are from 1970 and no longer are effective. > > Please do not get upset at me for posting this to you, I care about you. If you don't want to get our help, that is ok I guess but I just could not sit by and see a fellow human suffering and heading towards an early grave without speaking up. > > Regards, > > > >

Guest guest
Wayne, post us your last two a1c readings from your lab work and 3 weeks of sugars you have taken and lets see how well you are doing. I really think you are just making excuses because you don't want to change. Be honest about it. I'm not going to sit here and let you tell us you are doing well using 70/30 insulin after losing your leg, passing out, ambulances at your home, nurses, in and out of the hospital, kidney complications, and more. Stop kidding yourself Wayne and get real. Ya, I'm being upfront with you and I don't care if it ticks you off, I'm not going to just let you back out of this thread like you are ok. No way. Your not. If you don't want our help that is fine Wayne, you'll be dead in about 2 to 3 years if you don't change. I base this off the complications you are having. If you are fine continuing down that road of destruction you are on, so be it. However, at any time you want to change and be real with yourself, be real with us, we are here to help and I mean that. Like I said, I don't care if this email fires you up, I'm not concerned about your temper, I'm concerned about your life. Guest guest
You are totally disregarding the logical steps we have outlined for you to get on lantus and to have it work. You are not even recognizing the help we are trying to offer you Wayne. I.E you are not even being open minded to getting help at all from us but that is your call. You are comfortable on 70/30 just because that is all you have known for your entire life. This is why you are having diabetic complications because of the 70/30 and it's inability to give you *tight* control. There is a key difference between tight control Wayne, and as you put it, good control. I've been diabetic, type 1 for 30 years so I know just as much about this as you do Wayne. Lantus is fine for you, you just didn't have the knowledge on how to adjust it and you simply have to put forth some effort to get the result. We explained that all you had to do is cut the lantus in half from what the doctor prescribed you to do and get up at 3 AM and check your sugar to see if you are getting low. It really is that simple. Even at 67 years old, your age is irrelevant. You can teach an old dog new tricks, I am a firm believer in that and Harry is proof of it. Well, I won't say anything else to you beyond this email Wayne because you have made it clear to us that you are fine using the 70/30 and you have no desire to change and I'm sorry to hear that. Best of luck to you Wayne, I hope you can seriously get your sugars under better control and I mean that. God bless, Re: wayne message for you Dear and Wayne, Love is not a feeling. It is a decision. you clearly made a decision to help one of your fellow human beings. It took courage, tenacity, caring and skill. You told the truth and it hurts to give and to get.
