Guest guest
Dave, Are you not able to feel when your BSG goes down?I have on occassion been like that and it not a good thing! Re: wourlds highest bgs I had passed out in my office, and when the emts got to me, and finally did a bg test (apparently not the first thing they did) , I was 14. I have had readings of 21 and other 20s over the years, and have functioned pretty well and quite often not with significant symptoms. There must be a line in there somewhere that the body finally says, " okay, I'm gonna shut you down so I can go find me some sugar in some of those delicious looking organs you have sitting around! " Dave wourlds highest bgs > I don't know about the other guy but when I was 17 I had a blood glucose of 1264 and my blood had turned to acid. my back hurt and I was in the ICU of the hospital for a week getting it back down. > My lowest- was when I was in a small coma and it was reported as-06. > I'm doing much better now. > >
Guest guest
LOL about organs... hey Dave do you check your bgs pre meal and 2/3 hour post meal at all? Those meters do help avoid those pass out situations you know smiles. wourlds highest bgs > > > > I don't know about the other guy but when I was 17 I had a blood glucose > of 1264 and my blood had turned to acid. my back hurt and I was in the ICU > of the hospital for a week getting it back down. > > My lowest- was when I was in a small coma and it was reported as-06. > > I'm doing much better now. > > > >
Guest guest
it's simple, check your blood sugar. Not directed at Dave here but when a diabetic passes out, typically, it is the type of diabetic who doesn't check their sugar often enough or rarely etc. That is what the blood meter is for... not to just test for a high sugar, but more importantly, to show you when you are starting to go low so you can correct it with a few glucose tablets. wourlds highest bgs > > > > > > > I don't know about the other guy but when I was 17 I had a blood glucose > > of 1264 and my blood had turned to acid. my back hurt and I was in the ICU > > of the hospital for a week getting it back down. > > > My lowest- was when I was in a small coma and it was reported as-06. > > > I'm doing much better now. > > > > > >
Guest guest
If I haven't checked it, and my bg goes low, I usually feel something around the 50 mg/dl point. This isn' to say that I have been symtomatic at 70 or 80 or whatever, but normally, I don't feel symptoms until that 50 mark. Below 50, and specifically in the 30s, and even 20s, it can go either way. I can feel strong symptoms which is a feeling of weakness and hunger, or I can feel as little as a slight weakness. The time I passed out and was 14 (a tremendous sstory to tell around a cup of coffee sometime) I had gotten extremely disoriented and was having great trouble making a decision to walk from the bathroom in my office for a distance of about 50 feet, I stood for what seemed like hours before I finally willed myself to go back to mydesk where my glucose tablets and juice boxes were. I was found slumped over in my chair with an unopened 3-pack of juice boxes sitting on my desk. I have a vague memory of having trouble getting the shrink wrap off, and well, who knows if it had come off easily, I may have beenalright. Oh, what a discussion I could get into about the way things are shrink wrapped today! I mean, give me a break! I need a chain-saw to open a box of cereal! It's crazy! <snicker> Dave wourlds highest bgs > > > > I don't know about the other guy but when I was 17 I had a blood glucose > of 1264 and my blood had turned to acid. my back hurt and I was in the ICU > of the hospital for a week getting it back down. > > My lowest- was when I was in a small coma and it was reported as-06. > > I'm doing much better now. > > > >
Guest guest
Some diabetics develop a bad symptom-that is the inability to feel those symptoms. It often happens to diabetics who have a lot of low-their body is so used to feeling low, that there are no symptoms I had a friend with this and she would pass out while walking down the hall or in a meeting-this included several times at work. The docs finally got her more balanced and insisted she start running higher BG for a while, so she then started having low symptoms again. Re: wourlds highest bgs Now Dave is a man who needs to carry glucose tablets at all times, but what good would they do, if he doesn't recognize any signs of low glucose levels. There are several symptoms of low glucose level. Do you recognize any of them. Maybe others can help out here, but here are some of the symptoms of low glucose that I have experienced. Feeling tired and give out with the shakes happening at the same time. I have also felt generally dizzy and a little sick at the stomach as well as breaking out in sweats. Of course I have experienced the low glucose levels many times, and I can generally tell when I am getting low glucose, but I was on oral medications at the time I had these symptoms. Since being on the insulin of two kinds, I have experienced the shakes and generally feeling a little sick on about three ocasions. wourlds highest bgs > > > > I don't know about the other guy but when I was 17 I had a blood glucose > of 1264 and my blood had turned to acid. my back hurt and I was in the ICU > of the hospital for a week getting it back down. > > My lowest- was when I was in a small coma and it was reported as-06. > > I'm doing much better now. > > > >
Guest guest
You're right about the shrink wrap thing. I use a small can of juice that has a tab-like a soda can-they is real easy to lift under the worse of circumstances Re: wourlds highest bgs If I haven't checked it, and my bg goes low, I usually feel something around the 50 mg/dl point. Guest guest
Hey amen to that Dave with regards to shrink wrap and opening food... wourlds highest bgs > > > > > > > I don't know about the other guy but when I was 17 I had a blood glucose > > of 1264 and my blood had turned to acid. my back hurt and I was in the ICU > > of the hospital for a week getting it back down. > > > My lowest- was when I was in a small coma and it was reported as-06. > > > I'm doing much better now. > > > > > >
Guest guest
this is true. I know several myself and they check their bgs 8 times a day - pre meal and 2 hour post meal to keep a grip on it. Lots of checking but they have passed out before and didn't like that LOL wourlds highest bgs > > > > > > > I don't know about the other guy but when I was 17 I had a blood glucose > > of 1264 and my blood had turned to acid. my back hurt and I was in the ICU > > of the hospital for a week getting it back down. > > > My lowest- was when I was in a small coma and it was reported as-06. > > > I'm doing much better now. > > > > > >
Guest guest
I've been type 1 for 37 years now, and it is likely, as someone noted, that after thousands of lows over the years, my body indeed is somewhat desensitized to low bg. I have been checking my bg 8-10 times daily for nearly 10 years, and it does me good to see this line of thought finally becoming the norm. My pharmacist has informed me that I am not the only one who checks so often, but it is still not common. I think my problem is trying to maintain a somewhat normal bg level is like walking a tight rope. The constant battle to match insulin dosage and food intake is constant, and since I would rather err on the side of low bg, I often get caught with just a little too much insuline. Guest guest
Hi Dave. I do this myself and fully understand *exactly* what you are saying... it's a tight line to walk and isn't always fun... wourlds highest bgs > > > > > > > > > > > > > I don't know about the other guy but when I was 17 I had a blood > > glucose > > > > of 1264 and my blood had turned to acid. my back hurt and I was in the > > ICU > > > > of the hospital for a week getting it back down. > > > > > My lowest- was when I was in a small coma and it was reported as-06. > > > > > I'm doing much better now. > > > > > > > > > >
Guest guest
You're absolutely right, Dave about the balancing act. It is a non-stop thing!
