According to the NY Times, many of the firefighters and other workers at the Twin Towers will have ongoing lung problems similar to ours from inhaling all the dust etc. Very sad. E. IPF 12/05

E,

I saw a report yesturday that said thousands may be affected by the dust that was generated. Yes, it is sooooo sad. Entire families will be fighting for thier lives.

I also read an article the other day that said hair spray was responsible for many lung problems. There is even something called hair spray syndrome (or something). Believe me, having come from the 50's and 60's I have probably breathed in gallons of the stuff! And then we had three daughters who were teenagers during the Big Hair days! Our bathrooms were fogged up with hair spray. Think how that must affect the cilia in our bronchia and stick to delicate lung tissue. But, if you are not struggling with lung disease, who gives a second thought to such a thing?

, On Good Morning America they reported that 70% of the workers who first responded have been diagnosed with serious lung diseases. It is sad. My only hope is that there will be more funding for research since it is bringing attention to the forefront.
