hi norma, pleased to hear you have gained someweight......what is your secret? would love toknow

,

I drink Boost nutritional drink. It is similar to Ensure but tastes much better. I have also been taking fish oil capsules and flax oil that the naturapath at the compounding pharmacy suggested.

I will ask my pulmonary doctor about making the trip. I am sure he will tell me to do what I want to do. The Tobramycin that I inhale the last two weeks of each month is to control the pseudomonas in my lungs. The doctor would not know what antibiotic to prescribe without a sputum culture. The hotel where we stayed last year was across the street from two large hospitals in Chicago. Chicago is a three-hour flight from Austin. I am from Southern Illinois and have spent a lot of time in Chicago as my brother lived there when I was in college. Our daughter also lives there. Since I am so thin, the cold weather really bothers me. The change in temperature from where I live in Texas and Chicago can be significant in December.

Thanks for your concern.

Love, Norma

3 hours is not longto fly

,

Three hours on the plane is only part of the time. We live about 45 minutes from the airport and have to arrive at the airport at least one hour before departure. After arriving in Chicago it will take us at least a half an hour to arrive at our hotel by taxi.

How did do his treatments when you flew back to the U.K. when his father passed away? I have a portable nebulizer but could not do postural drainage on the airplane. When I do my morning breathing treatment, about three hours later I need to do my postural drainage. I have to lie on my bed with two firm pillows to clear my lungs. I do not know how I could possibly do this on an airplane. I would not want to be coughing during the graduation ceremony. Any advice would be most appreciated.

tip, if you suffer from blocked ears and sinuses, take a Sudafed tablet or use a nasal decongestant spray one hour before flying

Bunny,

I cannot take Sudafed or a nasal decongestant due to a irregular, fast heartbeat for which I am being treated with a calcium channel blocker. My cardiologist advised against using any type of decongestant including topical.

Thanks for the information about traveling at night after I have finished my postural drainage procedure.

Hi Norma,

I have to do postural drainage 2-3 times daily, so air travel (or any travel) during that time is awkward. I get around this by travelling at night. It is much easier for me to fly at night with clear lungs, than to fly during the day when I'm congested. It is a 4-5 hour flight home to visit my family, and I usually reach my destination around midnight .. but it's the only way I can travel now.

Another tip, if you suffer from blocked ears and sinuses, take a Sudafed tablet or use a nasal decongestant spray one hour before flying. I always do nebulised ventolin and atrovent just before leaving home as well, which helps my breathing during the flight.

Take care,

Love Bunny

Norma, the doctor gave him a broad spectrum

antibiotic.......actually a sulpha drug........double

strength.

I think I spelled prophylactic incorrectly last time.

Hi there Bunny, I use nebuliser before I fly too, but I also need to use my

puffer as soon as the plane lifts off, again within 20 mins, and depending

how long the flight is again about an hour into flight.

I also chew that gum Air Waves( not sure if thets correct spelling). Chewing

helps the ears and that gum has eucalyptus in it too which is great for

opening airways.

Thats it, my flying tips, of course they are what I do, doesn,t mean they

work for everone.

I love flying, but along with the asthma, I have had many ear ops, and

altitude doesn,t help my ears at all.

LOL

I just returned from my pulmonary doctor's office. I have to turn in a sputum sample this afternoon. I saw him for just a few minutes on the way out of the office. I saw a new physician's assistant today. Thanks for the good wishes. I am ready to take a nap now.

I have not turned in a sputum test yet. I left the paperwork and sample on the kitchen counter for my husband to take to the lab, and he forgot. Tomorrow is my last day to turn one in before the weekend. I was supposed to start my inhaled antibiotic therapy today but will have to wait until I turn in the culture.

Thanks for thinking of me.

dear norma,

yes i'm sure thinking about you and praying for

you.........that's awful that your husband 'forgot' to

take the sample to the lab......could you ask a

neighbour to deliver one for you or someone from your

church who is more reliable......i hope your symptoms

are not escalating in the meantime ...........sending

you peace and gentle cyber hugs and a healthy dose of

fresh ocean air........the ocean is totally calm this

morning and as we ate our breakfast several boats went

by with their reflections clear on the water.......a

beautiful sight with the mountains as a backdrop.

I am feeling much better today. I think I just had a virus since my temperature was only low grade for one day. I took the sputum sample to the lab this afternoon. Thanks for your prayers. Now I know why does so well. Anyone would with your tender, loving care. I can just visualize what you saw when you were eating breakfast this morning.

When you go on a cruise, does have to stay away from the crowds since you are in a confined area? I hope this is not too personal.

My pulmonologist's physician's assistant asked me if anyone in my house had been ill. I told her no. My husband never gets colds, and I don't think I was around anyone with a cold. I went to several doctor's offices, but they were my gynecologist, cardiologist and the dental office.

Thanks for sending your healing prayers.

Love,

Norma

Hello Norma, I too enjoy s pics that she send us to imagine, and

thats not oo hard to do is it?

The problem with infections is you all might be well and health, and go to

doctors or just shopping, you have no idea what anyone within metres of you

have, sometimes they don,t even know.

We just have to do our best to be aware of our surrounds as best we can.

The rest really is fate.

You could be sharing space with a carrier of something, or someone who has

been subjected to others around who are on the brink of illness.

All we can do is our best, same with our families and friends, and hope they

do the same.

I look forward to weekends as that when I normally see family, but this

wekend is different.

I have the old chap again, and I don,t think the family will be comfy around

him, as he keeps reminding us how he cannot stand kids.

I am in the process of trying to negotiate alternative care for weekends,

other wise may have to just let some services take over, even though I know

they won,t wait long to put him in a home.

I did make a promise, but I have done my best, and I cannot put him before

my family, life is too short and I already feel left out and guilty myself,

so I can understand how my family may feel.

I know they understand, and know that its not forever, but no -one knows

what tomorrow holds, and my family are my world.

I am at the present feeling a bit low, and I know its because I,m in a bit

of a corner.

Guilt is riding on my back, for both sides- my family and the promise I made

this chap.

However his family keep telling me to put him away, its really eating at me

at the moment.

Anyway, just had to say a few words as i may not get back here for a while.

I feel I am neglecting family and even my self a bit.

hi norma, you said " but I am a little upset about my

treatment this time. " .......my NON treatment would be

more accurate.

I'm so sorry for you, what a case of hurry up and

wait.

How are you feeling actually? You know not to sit at

home if you need to be in the hospital, don't you?

I'm happy that your son called you with his good news

and yes, it's too bad that you aren't there with your

son and his dad.

Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

Hello Norma, how are you doing, are you on the mend?

Well, you know what I mean , are you feeling a little better.

Did you get some treatment.

I,m not too good either, seems I am copping lots with being run down( over

tired).

Now have for the first time in many years a huge mouth ulcer, and cannot

open my mouth to eat, even having trouble drinking.

The ulcer is on the very inside of the corner of my mouth, making my face,

ears etc uncomfortable.

At least I know its because I feel so run down.

Not a lung prob etc.

Any way, just thought I would ask how you are now.

Hugs,

Sandy

Hello Norma, just got that lovely post from Lee, and then read your post,

isn,t she a doll. She is so thoughtful, of course everyone one is, everyone

has a special appeal, a special unique kindness, and it really lifts the

spirits doesn,t it.

It does one good to hear and see beautiful things, just like a cool, summers

day, not too hot, not cold just perfect.

How are you feeling now, some things , some posts have been missed.

I know this group will heal.

It has so many wonderful people in it, and things do look a little better.

I am sure those who have chosen to leave will return, they will miss this

group, as we will miss them.

Please let me know how you are, have had you on my mind these last 4 days.

When I see my son and his familiy , I think of you, I saw them over the

weekend too, and its school holidays now here in Australia, my messenger is

running hot at night, and even this morning, when I got back from my

hospital visit, I have 2 emails from my grand children( 2 girls), going

crook that they couldn,t get me last night, and they wanted to send me

kisses and luck for today.

Hugs

Sandy

I can manage to go really well on Messenger.

I wish I was as good on this thing to be able to send a rose or flowers ,

I,m still learning LOL

sorry to hear what happened to you.

Thats exactly what has happened to me 4 times now, with 2 turning out to be

cardiac arrests.

I have an epi pen coming.

But each time its happened to me, only once was it , neglegt from not

checking, well not yet any way.

Its just continued on each time they try and introduce something new or even

the flu shot etc.

I have everything done in hospital under observation, and always wear my

bracelet.

I have a pendant too, I have to alternate, as I have allergy to metals too,

even stainless steel.

Mine all started with a bad batch of contrast dye, IODINE.

I had had many cat scans using dyes etc in the past, but about 5 yrs ago was

having a cat scan of brain, and arrested under the machine( in the tunnel).

Please make sure you get a bracelet, and also write all allergies, all meds

on a piece of paper and keep a copy in your puse, and hubbys wallet.

Hugs

Here's Karin, Canada, for years, I have used excel, winterfresh. One

of the ingredients is Mannitol. It's made by Wrigley, Canada,

Toronto. Wrigleys told me different name chewing gums have the same

ingredients, go under different names in various countries.

My respirologist said gum works like a mouth wash, it kills germs

lodged in the throat and nose.

Cheers,
