Guest guest
Hi, I have been taking methadone for about a year now. I started on the same dose as you but it wasn't enough. The doc kept increasing it and finally we found a dose that works prety well. I take 60mg. every 8 hours. One of the tricks is to make sure you take it around the clock. If you don't it won't work very well. Figure out a time that you are usually awake in the middle of the night. If you are like most of us you don't sleep very well. I take mine at 5am,1pm,9pm. I can also take another 60mg. for breakthrough pain. I usually have to take extra most every day. Don't be afraid to tell your doc that you want to try increasing your dose if it isn't working well. Feel free to ask any other questions you might have. you can write to me at my e-mail also if you wish. Hugs Sheri
Guest guest
Thank you for bringing this up - I don't post here often (really haven't at all in quite a while) but do read the posts. This one hit me as I also take this medicine and have history of heart issues. It was never discussed with me that heart damage could be a side effect. I will be asking my doctor about this for sure. Thank you again! Methadone I am not taking this medication, but I know some people who are. One of them in fact, has been a friend since junior high school. She suffers from chronic pain stemming from all kinds of back problems. Yesterday we were chatting and she told me she had just seen her doctor about getting another epidural and he ended up cautioning against it because they discovered some heart damage that has been caused by taking methadone, which had been prescribed by a different doctor some time ago. This new doctor told her to stop taking it immediately and gave her something else instead.
