Guest guest
Hi Babs, I've not had OA as long as you have I'm sure. It's only been about 2 yrs. for me. Gosh it sounds like you are in a great deal of pain tonight. Hugs! It saddens me to read of any of you being in such great pain. I do know what that feels like. I'm experiencing the weather induced pain myself. I just got up about 30 mins ago due to pain. I took some medicine and am waiting for it to start working so I can resume sleeping. I bet you aren't happy to be in such pain. When our hands hurt, it sure makes life hard. Since we use them to do everything. I think it's the same when our legs hurt, you just can't hardly function. I hope this front passes soon so our pain will be back to normal at least. It's coming through here tomorrow and continuing through Thursday. So 2 more days for me. How much longer for you? Does your increased pain always start a couple of days before the front or rain is to arrive? Hugs, ~Tommie Re: Question about Osteorarthritis I have had osteoarthritis for along time. It is really bad in my spine and each time the operated on my neck they had to remove the spurs.. you would be shocked at the charge for doing that. I have now begun to have flairups in my hands and I am not a happy camper about that... But the changes in pressure due to weather can cause it to become very painful. Also being in the same position for a prolonged time will flair it up. But hormones can cause changes in the pain too. It is amazing how our body works. Sue I know there isn't a good time to be outside when it comes to COPD but I try to plant some in the spring then my husband keeps it up in the hot part of summer..... I don't plant but just a few lil flower gardens...a few tears ago he got me one of those pools that have the blow up ring around the top and Kaytee is 16 now so her and her friends like it a lot also...he puts it up for me in the spring and takes it down in the fall it cant be left up and it has a solar cover and heater so it stays pretty warm...I can breathe as long as I'm cool so I really enjoy the pool.. Guest guest
Hi Sue Oh yes you cannot win. If I rest my hands too long I get stiff fingers. If I am active I get sore hands. Either way, you are right, you cannot win. Plus I have extra wear and tear on my hands due to my toddler daughter who still needs to be picked up on a regular basis. Plus she is going through this mommy phase where everything is mommy. I cannot even go to the bathroom without her flipping out and following me. She has a nasty cold and the dr is concerned about some swollen tissue in her nasal passages so is sending her for xrays to see what is going on in there. Sinus and adenoid problems run in my family. Not dangerous as in cancer or anything but it has been impeding her nose breathing so she has been waking up at night when she tries to breathe through her nose and she cant. So bcs she is a squirmy 22 month old, we have to go to the hospital because regular xray places do not deal with squirming critters. Getting to the hospital is a feat in itself. They only do these xrays for about 3 hrs every day, during nap time of course. Plus you cannot make an appt so it is first come first serve. So if they are busy we will wait for ever. Sign! So there is that causing me stress. Plus hubby still does not have a job. He is looking and has an interview this morning so please keep your fingers crosed. That in itself is stressing me out. It is hard to sleep when you know that next month he will have no more money coming in. I am fighting a bad case of bronchitis, borderline pneumonia. It is viral so the only thing the dr could give me was a puffer. Just one thing after another. It never seems to end. I would just like one boring day when nothing happens. Ok I have to get on with my day. Although I really just want to curl up in bed and throw the blankets over my head. Take care. Guest guest
Hi fellow O/A sufferers, The damp wet weather and cold kick my butt as well, and the bone spurs…. If I have to go in and have something else ground down I'm, well, I don't even know. I guess my O/A has had a name for about five years now, I had pain from it before that, but I refused to get treated until I couldn't stand it anymore. Pride and ego, I don't know if it's just because I'm a man, or simply because for the first time in my life working harder was not the answer to my problem, it was part OF the problem. It is a damned if I do, damned if I don't too. I try to spin that in my head to my benefit though. I try to tell myself since it's going to hurt either way, I'll at least feel better knowing I got something done. Usually that helps, but I do still get angry from time to time if I take on too much, or forget to be realistic about my limitations. I have never made a connection about the moon, but I do seem to have a built in barometer.
Guest guest
Well, I can't speak for any one else, but for me the O/S is most painful and has most affected joints that I've damaged and places in my spine that I've also injured. I took a really bad fall a long time ago, and spent 20 years in the trades building houses. For me it didn't become intolorable until I was closing in on 40. I also spent several years in the service(regular Army infantry), and they do teach you to be hardcore. Maybe not as hardcore as the Marines, but it was gung-ho enough for me. I think it's one of the reasons it's so hard to ask for help now. I've spent most of my life hiding pain, and all of a sudden, I can't anymore. Guest guest
I think the moon is a factor too. Anything that changes our environment. At least it does for me and it affects my mood too of course and how well I handle the extra pain. ~Tommie Re: Question about Osteorarthritis Hi fellow O/A sufferers, The damp wet weather and cold kick my butt as well, and the bone spurs.. Guest guest
Thanks Sue, we are having rain and my back is in a major flair up.. Pain meds do not help me at all I take them and they don't do anything. I just wade through the pain and rest alot. Hugs, Babs
Guest guest
Hugs Tommie OA is not a fun thing to have I got diagnoised with it and DDD at the age of 28.. But the pain was managable then and not as bad. It flaired once in awhile but after my accident in 95 wow did it flair up and get worse fast. Tommie I have pain all the time. But the weather changing and the least thing can flair up the pain really bad. I have been through every med the pain doc could put me on, injections and not one of the pain pills even put a dent in the pain they made it a little more bearable for a short while then I am right back where I started. They tried me on durgestic patches they helped better than anything but the fog like state it kept me in was awful not to mention the price of that med is just awful being on Medicare I wouldn't even attempt to be put on that at 250 bucks for a month supply it. But I finally decided that I wasn't going to waste money on pain meds unless I had to. When I am in major flair ups my doc calls me in meds to help ease the pain. But I have learned to listen to my pain and rest until it eases up to a bareable pain. The biggest problem with spinal pain is knowing your limits. Most of us have no choice put to push those limits. I have slowly learned that when my back starts flaring to get off my feet and rest. That things can wait until it eases. But I have not figured out how to avoid it all together boy wouldn't that be so nice. Hugs, Babs

Guest guest
LOL !! I mean no harm really!! I just love men! They are usually good sports for the punches I can sometimes throw! Of course you are all loved! Would we have it any other way? No, absolutely NOT! And of course you are needed, very much so. Not only for the duties you mentioned, but there are a slue of others. I won't even begin to list them. Some good and some not so favorable. I love your attitude! You are one who is a great sport. Thank you for the laugh. ~Tommie\ Re: Question about Osteorarthritis -I think I've just been insulted lol. Now, I'm smiling as I write this, so no one take offense. Guest guest
Thank you ! You have sure been a blessing to this group I think. You're spirit is always so bright, even when you are down, you just seem to brighten things around here and for that I thank you! I'm glad we have met. I can see that your wife is a very blessed woman! As I am sure you are blessed having her. ~Tommie Re: Question about Osteorarthritis Oh Tommie, I know you were playin', so was I. All kidding aside, I think God gave man half of all the good stuff, and woman the other half of all the good stuff, so when we got together, fell in love and started a family, we'd make a whole. There's no harm in laughing at ourselves ( or each other)a little bit I don't think.
