Guest guest
Remember I'm still virginal to all this LOL ..... my cord is tethered at the base and my lower back and hip/leg bones are killing me. Could tethered cord cause hip and bone pain ? I know it is the cause of that low back labour pain I have, but is it causing my hip and leg bone pain too ? Any tips for a sleeping position ? Since my Chiari decompression sleeping on my back is out of question.Seems all I do is toss and turn trying to get comfortable, am I fighting a losing battle ? Guest guest
My legs hurt all the time. For me, it's nerve pain. Sometimes when walking, my hips hurt too. Sleeping is a nightmare (no pun intended). I haven't found a good way to sleep. Back sleeping is horrible for me, as my ears seem to get " full " and I get sick to my stomach. You speak of back labor. If you have more children, you should consider a c-section. I had my first three children the regular way, and lost function after every birth. With the fourth, I had a c-section, and I haven't lost anymore function! It was nice not to find some new issue 6 months after the baby was born. --- blessedwithmojo wrote: > Remember I'm still virginal to all this LOL ..... my > cord is tethered at > the base and my lower back and hip/leg bones are > killing me. Guest guest
I have constant pain in my hips. Detethering has not improved this much for me. I did not expect it to because of the connective tissue disorder that I have called EDS. However it is the splinter versus the tree falling on top of me. At least this way I can walk. There are exercises that will help deal with whatever sacral nerve damage that is left after detethering. The best place for them is in PT. I was told detethering is to stop progression of symptoms. Any regression of symptoms is just gravy. In my oppinion at this point I am swimming in it. I am enjoying being able to walk to my car and go over a block without too much help. Guest guest
Isn't it funny how you can look back and say " oh that's why that happened! Guest guest
It is really interesting how it never occurred to any of my doctors that perhaps pushing out a baby could possibly strain my spinal cord. They were all asked, and they all said " Oh no, that's just fine. " So I went with natural vaginal birth and I lost my bladder, I lost feeling in many parts of my lower body, and I really am not a thrilled person to know that it all could have been avoided had the docs known more 21 years ago. --- The McPhersons's wrote: > Isn't it funny how you can look back and say " oh > that's why that happened! Guest guest
I dont have a tethered cord, and yet, my bladder function decreased after my first daughter's birth. I am fine, but when I am full it is hard to do jumping jacks. All manageable ofcourse, but still a long labor and vaginal birth is a big strain on a body. I delivered my second baby 6 months ago (the one with tsc) by c-section. Since it was a planned non emergency c-section it was a breeze. My body did not have all that strain. If I were to do it again, I would choose a planned c-section any time. Guest guest
It sounds more likely muscular/pelvic floor issues then neurologic (I.e.stress incontinence) Re: Does a tethered cord cause this ... Guest guest
With my first pregnancy I went to hospital with contractions about 30 seconds apart - they were not impressed lol. In my defense I told them I was waiting for the PAIN that I heard I was suppose to get !I finally had it in the last 20 minutes, same with my second child - tethered cord and chiari related ? Nerves damaged maybe so I didn't feel much ? Between second and third child I had cervix removed due to CIN 3 ( OOPs they forgot to tell me not to get pregnant) and number three was more then enough pain !! All 3 were natural. I did not know about the tethered cord or chiari. With hind site being what it is tho, all the symptoms and signs were clearly there. > > > > > Remember I'm still virginal to all this LOL > > ..... my > > > cord is tethered at > > > the base and my lower back and hip/leg bones are > > > killing me. Guest guest
That's interesting. I had easy deliveries too. I had lots of leg/hip/back pain while pregnant, I didn't know it was tsc pain. My ankle wasn't working for a while too. A Re: Does a tethered cord cause this ... With my first pregnancy I went to hospital with contractions about 30 seconds apart - they were not impressed lol. Guest guest
Did the bladder function get better with time, or is it as bad as it was after the baby? Most women have some incontinence after child birth because the muscles that control the entire area get so weakened. Kegels are supposed to help that. They didn't help me and I didn't know why, and here, it turned out that the nerve that controls those muscles was too damaged for the muscles to really strengthen the way they should have. Lovely stuff. Jumping jacks with a full bladder. I wonder how many people would give that a shot and see what happens? Non-TCS people here that I work with. Those are the people I'm going to ask! --- subub_98 wrote: > I dont have a tethered cord, and yet, my bladder > function decreased > after my first daughter's birth. Guest guest
There are a lot of women whom I've heard speak of easy labors and deliveries. I don't know that it would be TCS related for you or not. I didn't have easy deliveries with the three I had vaginally. Well, they weren't horrible, either, but I certainly felt enough pain with all of them. --- A Gosp wrote: > That's interesting. I had easy deliveries too. Guest guest
It is definitely better than soon after the baby, but not as good as before the baby. Well, the jumping jacks thing is because I used to pride on having such control...during long car trips I would be the only one not wanting to stop to go to the bathroom because I dont like dirty bathrooms outside. So this was a surprise. Minor adjustments like always using the restroom before going to the aerobics class fixed that problem. Wish all problems were that simple. Guest guest
When I had both of my kids, I was unaware of my TCS...all the symptoms were there but no one put them all together. When I had epidurals, they would only work on the right side of my body since the lipoma was blocking the left. Scary now that I think about the epidurals since my cord wasn't in the " normal " spot! Guest guest
Same experience about unidentified TCS. First delivery in the 1969 they started losing us after 30 some painful hours so they pushed hard on my stomach forcing my son out. Damage didn't help my incontinence problems. Three years later with the delivery of my daughter there was no pain at all-I could have dropped her while walking if water hadn't broken.
