Guest guest
28 grams equal one ounce 3500 calories equal one pound A glass containing ten fluid ounces of 12% alcohol by volume wine, which is common table wine, actually contains 1.2 grams of alcohol or around 84 calories. Wine is estimated to contain 1 gram of carbohydrates per 2 ounces. counting calories > . 1 gram of carbohydrate = 4 calories > . 1 gram of protein = 4 calories > . 1 gram of fat = 9 calories > . 1 gram of alcohol = 7 calories > > > > > >
Guest guest
There is a simple formula for predicting the number of calories one needs each day to maintain one's weight. It goes like this: ten calories per pound of body weight per day with moderate exercise. For example you weigh 150 pounds. In order to maintain this weight you would need to consume 1500 calories per day with moderate exercise. If the person consumes 1000 calories per day, then they would lose 1 pound in seven days or one week, since 500*7=3500 calories, which is one pound. On the other hand if one consumes 2000 calories per day, then one would gain one pound in a week. Now let's see what eating one pound of steak in a day would do for you, and let's assume it is a low fat steak containing only one ounce of fat in the whole steak. 15 ounces*28 grams*4 carbs=1640 plus one ounce of fat for an additional 252 calories. This brings a grand total of calories for this one pound steak to 1892 or just shy of 1900 calories, and this is just for the steak alone. Throw in a little salad and some bread and it is no wonder one gains weight. In fact if the person only ate one pound of steak per day and drank water, they would still gain weight. counting calories > > > > > > > . 1 gram of carbohydrate = 4 calories > > > . 1 gram of protein = 4 calories > > > . 1 gram of fat = 9 calories > > > . 1 gram of alcohol = 7 calories > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > >
Guest guest
You're right of course. Moderation is the key word and toomany americans do not seem to believe it. Re: counting calories yup, very true Pat. Everything in moderation. If Americans only knew the word balance when it came to eating. I.E they now sell bite size snickers and 3 muskateer bars. One bite size snickers has 5 grams of carbs. A person could eat 1 of those for a nice sweet taste, only 5 grams of carbs, but instead, folks eat them by the handful and this is exactly what the candy companies want and intend for those bite size candies. However, if a person knows balance, they can use those little bite size bars for a treat and a taste of the good life LOL. n regards, counting calories > > > > > > > . 1 gram of carbohydrate = 4 calories > > > . 1 gram of protein = 4 calories > > > . 1 gram of fat = 9 calories > > > . 1 gram of alcohol = 7 calories > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > >
Guest guest
Yep! Thanks for the formula as I did not remember it. Guest guest
well, look at how large portion sizes are when you go out to eat at a restaurant let alone a fast food place. I can recall what Mc's calls a " small fry " being a large fry 15 years ago. We got a problem in the US with moderation folks but, we, don't, have, to, be, part of it! We can exercise self control and rise above the food fetish here and live a long and productive life. We don't have to let food kill us. regards, counting calories > > > > > > > > > > . 1 gram of carbohydrate = 4 calories > > > > . 1 gram of protein = 4 calories > > > > . 1 gram of fat = 9 calories > > > > . 1 gram of alcohol = 7 calories > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > >
