Guest guest
Does anyone else find the humid weather (combined withheat) suffocating? , I have the same problem in south central Texas (Austin). We moved here 23 years ago from the Midwestern part of the U.S. The summers are very hot and humid, and the summers are long here. This year is the first year since we moved here that it has rained in July and August. It is usually 100+ degrees during July, August and September. When I go outdoors, I feel like someone is smothering me. It is difficult for me to breathe, and I feel very fatigued. I also like the weather here in October as the air is cooler and it is not so humid. Norma (in Austin, Texas)
Guest guest
It is and has been terribly humid in Nebraska and I have definitely been feeling it. It wreaks havoc on me too and I had to resort to the prednisone for awhile. I could use a hard freeze! a Belling UNMC Department of Pharmacology & Experimental Neuroscience 985800 Nebraska Medical Center Omaha, NE 68198-5800 (402)559-5483 (phone) (402)559-7495 (fax)

Guest guest
Hi There, Thank you for all of your expedient responses. As you probably guessed, my doctor put me, back on prednisone, 20 mgs for ten days. He also upped my salbutamol and told me to keep taking it until it makes me shaky. Must admit that I am rather apprehensive about taking it so frequently in the home. This is often done for asthma attacks in hospital, but the doctors and nurses monitor us closely hospital. Anyhow, have been taking the generic ventolin often, as was told to do, so far not shaking yet. He's monitoring me closely and wants me to come in tomorrow if my lungs are still poorly controlled. I am going to get my hospital bag ready just in case tonight, because it might mean that I would need to be admitted. I hope that this can be treated at home. My peak flow at this time is only 86 and it had been around 186, so closer to 200. Hugs:0) ) " Miracles happen with love..... " ..... Guest guest
Hi , Yes I absolutely feel like I am drowning in summer heat and humidity. I think I know what a microwave feels like sometime hehee. I find I can breather better when it is cold (at the moment it is too darn cold freezing) but I know I am alive when I am shivering instead of lying on the floor in a pool of sweat slowly cooking. Guest guest
Thankyou ladies for all the info on humidity. My doctor thinks it should be the cold that affects me and that the humidity should help. I have printed all your responses out and will be showing her next time I visit. By the way, welcome to the newbies. Thanks again, keep well, , Australia Re: humidity Hi , Yes I absolutely feel like I am drowning in summer heat and humidity. Guest guest
, a peak flow of 80 is is low. I never get over 200 ever. As for the puffer and or nebuliser, with ventolin and atrovent. On almost every occassion I have had acute ashma attacks, I have been on 2 hrly nebs till it got into my system thoroughly.Yep it made me shake too, but thats natural. After its in the system and you are breathing a little better they will probably tell you that 4 hrl will be enough. But also Atrovent, in normal circumstances should only be given 6-8 hrly, as it lasts that long in the system. and when you are a little more stable, the ventolin can still be given 2 hrly with some saline. I was on 2hrl regime in hospital and out of hospital. The last time for over 3 months at home. First week all 3 ,ventolin , atrovent and saline, but then after the first week was only having the atrovent 4 hrly for 3 days then down to 6hrly( atrovent). But continued to have ventolin and saline 2 hrly. My doc came out to see me twice a week for 2 months. So don,t worry to much, they will tell you, that is if they are good at their job. Any way, when you feel you can stretch out the atrovent, then you can do that yourself safely. You only have 2 hrly whilst in an acute state. Is it only the asthma that is playing up? Guest guest
Just to confuse the picture I am the opposite to all of you, cold weather makes me cough and wheeze and worse (maybe the asthma element) but hot and humid weather seems to improve my breathing a lot! Unfortunately hot and humid doesn't happen often enough here in London. Love June > Thankyou ladies for all the info on humidity.
