Guest guest
The same thing happened to me. About 3 years ago I was dx with breast cancer. Had 3 surgeries plus a historectomy in the same year. The following year our coverage doubled. And again this past September it went up still more. There are 4 of us in the office and my company pays about $2300.00 a month. So don't you think I feel guilty. Because of me and now with OA, DDD and Fibro, I hate to see what it will be next year. If there is one. Hang in there, Judith Ann in AZ JANE <janeatregis@...> wrote: Well, it's time to renew the health insurance here at the office, and they are going WAY up on the premiums, like $1,000. a month for a tiny office, maybe 10 people. The boss has already laid down the law about cutting overhead, so it's very possible that they will drop our health coverage. Of course, it's just being whispered about since the supposition is that I'm the reason the rates are going up due to being on Remicade. I don't know what kinds of arthritis are considered " ininsurable " , I'm just trying to mentally prepare if that is indeed what happens. not working is not an option since I still have one to get through college, and I don't know for sure how much help Chas' dad will be. Things are like walking on eggshells around the office, I will be so glad to get home and hug my baby girl. Any thoughts from my wall of wisdom here at the Group? Guest guest
Judith, they have the option of a slightly more expensive plan that will have a bit higher deductible, out of pocket, etc. But the owner of our company can be very cold hearted when it comes to money. We have downsized and I am doing my job plus what 3 other people used to do. I am his secretary and have been here 15 years, but that doesn't matter either. It is disheartening. I know it's in God's hands so I have peace about that. thanks for your in put and for caring. Guest guest
Jane - Insurance costs have just skyrocketed. You are not personally responsible for all the increased costs- small office or no small office. We( the attorney union at the office) have gotten lectured at my office about the cost during contract negotiations and were offered two possible programs and premiums. The choice was made part of the contract. Those of us who require the more expensive coverage definitely pay higher premiums. it is however, fortunately, still available to us.I had no choice - the remicade cost is so high- I would not be able to pay for it on a lesser program- and it is the only thing that has worked for me.I remember how discouraged I was thinking about not being able to pay for the one thing that had helped. Remicade manufacturer will donate the drug for low income folks ( my clients qualify but I don't)- but the infusion itself is quite costly- and the cost is discounted ONLY IF you have insurance. Up until two years ago, our firm paid the entire cost of premiums for the higher cost program- no election had to be made or paid for. OT- when we were posting on Ken's poetry experience, you mentioned you were from a family of writers from Texas. Then you know Vassar 's work- I think she was qualified as a poet laureat e of Texas when W was governor. Hugs and hang in there, (in MI) [ ] Insurance renewal time > > >Well, it's time to renew the health insurance here at the office, and >they are going WAY up on the premiums, like $1,000. a month for a >tiny office, maybe 10 people. The boss has already laid down the law >about cutting overhead, so it's very possible that they will drop our >health coverage.
