Janet,

Yup, I remember the everything on your plate too... For that matter.. I did it with my kids as well.. and still do it with nieces and nephews... at least a tablespoon of everything on the table... I don't make them eat much.. but there are some things out there that taste good even if they don't LOOK good.. LOL

Grand-nephew this past summer.. found out that green bean casserole isn't as bad as it looks.. and went back for more than 2nds! LOL

Re: pepsi

Donna and Tom,

I grew up in the 60's and 70's and we got spanked with a paddle. And I remember a few times getting soap in the mouth for just saying Damn. And we had to eat all the food on our plate or we couldn't go and play. Now a days kids just get to eat a lot of junk and not that many foods that are good for you. I had to eat foods I didn’t even like to get to leave the table. It is too bad that this society has turned into a speedy and no strict punishment society. That is what these kids needs now a days is to go back in time and see what kind of punishment we had to endur. And we only got to have sodas on the weekends and fast food for special occasions. Boy how things have changed.

,

My summer months were spent babysitting... well after I was old enough to babysit.. which happened to be around 10 or so... now that wasn't that bad.. we had neighbors on either side of us who were retired, and I'm sure they kept an eye out on us.. (Cause my parents always seemed to know when I did something wrong!) Not to mention my dad worked right across the street and came home for lunch everyday.. and was within shouting distance in an emergency...

I had to wash dishes and pick up as well.. but it wasn't real often.. my mother worked, and said it wasn't worth the couple of hours she'd have involved in re-doing what I didn't do right (she was a perfectionist).. and the added mess to go with my doing it... I definitely didn't get to run wild around the neighborhood that's for certain.. I did have a best friend up the street that I was allowed to visit, and vice versa, but only when my parents were home.. otherwise it was 'STAY IN YOUR OWN YARD!!!!!' (course that included the two neighbors yards as well)..

Oh, and DON'T even think about bringing home a bad report card.. LOL.. that meant grounding for the entire next grading period... and if it happened to be the last report card of the year... that grounding went over till school started the next year!!...

Wasn't it wonderful.. I remember it fondly..

Re: pepsi

Tom,Yes, it is something.. I remember when... parents were NOT afraid to discipline their children.. and that would sometimes occur in the middle of a church service as well.. if you were misbehaving and a stern look and a pointed finger didn't do the trick... (There was always the threat that you would be taken outside and your bottom would be a little warmer when you came back in).. These days, smack your kids fingers for putting them where they don't belong and you could very well end up in jail!.. Spare the rod and spoil the child.. was always a favorite around our house.. LOL.. Didn't I read somewhere that Dr. Spock never had any children of his own? LOL A healthy fear of a warm bottom never hurt a single soul... (I'm not talking bruises here)... The only thing we can do is continue to pray for our country and the leaders.. |)onna

Donna,

Me, too! Both of my parents were teachers and doing well in school was a must. To them a "C" was failing. I only got one "F" in my entire school career (is that the right word? I can't think right now!). It was in my senior year and it was Anatomy. I hated it! The worst part was disecting a baby pig. Mine was black and white and my partner and I named him Harry (that was in 1978 - how come I can remember that and can't remember what I did last week?) I was scared to death to bring that grade home, but at least I was almost out of school by then. I was grounded for a month, except to go to work.

Take Care,
