Guest guest
It's certainly a nightmare! I suppose I was lucky when I tried for disability. I was 'laid off' my job of 20 years because " everyone has arthritis " , so I filed for unemployment. While I was drawing it, I filed for disability. Thanks to the leaders of our great country, my unemployment was extended a couple of times. When I went into the unemployment office they would ask, " how can you hold a job if you're disabled " ? My answer was, " if they hire me, I'll go to work " . It took 2 years for me to get SSD and was paid from the date I was laid off, the same time I was drawing unemployment. Thank goodness it wasn't a problem. Guest guest
To draw SSI or Medicade in Texas, you can have one house or apartment to live in, one vehicle, and no more than $2000 in the bank. It's very difficult to qualify for state aid of any kind. One way I stayed afloat while waiting for SSD was to sell about 6 cars of mine, one was a family member and a valuable collector car that I still don't like to think about. Guest guest
I am glad I could make some sense of it for you - if there is sense to be made.I don't claim major expertise- but I have worked as an attorney in this legal services program for ten years and I have practiced law for over 20 years.By supervising attorneys doing public benefits work (includes the social security stuff) and doing my own practice - which has has included some admin law - I have picked up some knowledge. Now you can see why I like poetry- the rules don't change as quickly and its so much nicer than reading regulations. LOL It may eventually come in handy personally-there are days when I would love to bag it - not worth what it does to my health either. Guest guest
Dear Jacquie: I know what you are going through and I feel very bad for you. I had a similar situation but not the same. I was a Registered Nurse and I got disability and but I had to pay back money to social security because they overpaid me and when I got my social security disability the second time because of kidney failure I had to repay money so I didn't get a big check just it went to back pay SS. So, I had bills that had mounted up that I still couldn't afford to pay after being out of work for 7 months with no pay. It is crazy. I got the transplant and went back to work for several years then I got RA and a messed up shoulder (rotator cuff) from an accident preventing a patient from falling and had to go out of work again. Then the disability from my job, I found out was taxable and now after 6 years, I didn't know it was, I have to pay that back too. It is like it never gets caught up. So, I understand your turmoil, and all we can do is roll with the punches, anyway we can. Hang in there and take care. Sincerely, Anjillah@... Guest guest
Hi, it's Margo. I am at the point of getting a lawyer to handle all the paperwork. When I get my state disability papers out and the unum papers out I have a brain freeze. I am so sick at looking at papers and calling people that I could pray for a month long coma. My body is killing me from the weather and the Lupus and RA. I really appreciate all you have informed me of and thank you soooo much.
