Leanne...I'm going to ask my pulmonologist next time if there is a connection.

If you think you may have sleep apnea, have a sleep study done. Your insurance will probably pay for one.

During my sleep study I stopped breathing up to 30 times in one hour and would sometimes take up to 45 sec. to take a breath!! Do the math...wow...I wasn't breathing much. Hard on the heart.

If you hear yourself "snort" that can be the brain pumping adrenaline to 'wake you up'. So I'm told.

I snored too. Rich said sounded like backing nails out of the wall. LOL. My hubby got used to it and slept right through it. He never noticed me stopping breathing. Usually, one does not wake up...I don't mean never...that's why the added danger.

I think I'm beginning to see a little humor in all of this. NOW when we go away from home I have to pack along the cpap AND o2. Jeeze, I didn't know I was this sick. Much more and we'll have to buy a different car, like jaime! Right now our little Hyundai Santa Fe does ok. LOL.

Hang in there. Love, Sher ipf 5-06

Sher - sleep apnea

Sher,

I'm also pondering the sleep apnea / pulmonary fibrosis connection. Since my diagnosis I think I now have sleep apnea. My husband says I snore (boo) and I find myself waking up occasionally with a start.

Leanne, Me too. My kids say I snore really loud now and I often wake up startled and gasp for breathe. I just hate to get tested for one more thing! I had to laugh at this snoring stuff. When I was at my lovely 229 my grand

daughters were here helping me. One morning Amber says " Mamaw you sacred me

to death last night, You were snoring so loud I thought something was in

your room and I didn't sleep the rest of the night " LOL that's pretty bad

she said she crawled to my door and peeked in.. LoL

For those using cpap, is there an alternative to the mask? I think i saw someone mention a silicone nose-something-or- other??? Dad's having a lot of trouble with the fit on his mask.

Also, I was wondering about those of you on oxygen--do you find that the 02 use causes a lot of dryness in the throat?

Hi Anne, Yes when I use my portable tanks I get very dry. I drink sips of

water also butterscotch or cinnamon disks. They coat my throat. I try only

to use them in church or while I'm out and about. when I get dry my throat

gets sore. Your Dad will learn to keep water with him. The concentrator I

have at home has a water bottle to humidify the O2. Much better.

Anne, My husbands mask is only on the nose. It is what is called a gel mask.

The rim that touches the nose is very soft and pliable. He uses saline nose

spray when he gets stuffy. He also takes Sudafed.

Hi Anne Yes I have the full face mask. Covers from the forehead down to the chin. I went and got a humidifier today as I am a mouth breather and my throat was getting too dry to swallow. Because my monster is caused by severe allergies, my nose never gets "unplugged" so the nose piece was not a option for me. With the full mask, you can adjust the piece across the nose as well as the fit across forehead this takes the pressure off the bridge of the nose. The only thing is, you cannot be claustrophobic with this thing, or it would drive you nutts. I have not had a problem with this even tho I an claustrophibic in small rooms or elevators (go figure) could be because it is clear and I can even read with it on. Ask the RT if this is a possiblilty for your dad as I know how much better he would feel just to sleep and breath at the same time HP 6/06anne wolf wrote: Hi , So, does your mask actually cover your mouth too? You need to adjust from the top strap and then go down to the bottom ones. That thing can get painful if it dosen't fit. My nose hurt for 3 days, I thought I had broken it again. there is a nose piece you can get IF you don't breath thru your mouth. Sorry, I'm a mouth breather because of all the allergies

my nose is Never clear enough to breath. You can also get a humidifier adapter for the c-pap that connects to the mask, I have one ordered because my mouth and throat stays dry during sleep. Hope this helps. HP 6/06anne wolf <annewolfrogers> wrote: For those using cpap, is there an alternative to the mask? I think i saw someone mention a silicone nose-something-or- other???
