Hi Everyone--

I'm new to this list, and new to RA (I was diagnosed last April, but it still

feels pretty new to me). I read some of your postings about rheumatologists not

listening to their patients, and I've been having some difficulties with my

rheumatologist as well. While I trust his expertise, and I know he has my best

interests at heart, I also find him to be quite condescending and impatient with

me. So, I've been considering looking around for a second opinion, but I live in

an area where there aren't many choices, and I don't want to cut off my

relationship with him. Could anyone suggest some tactful/diplomatic ways to deal

with this? Thanks!

Re: Suggesting meds to doctors?

I had to stop taking MTX and then Arava because of very severe stomatitis that

made it almost imossible to eat.

Re: [ ] Suggesting meds to doctors?

Failure for me with MTX and Arava (I had to fail at two others before

being allowed a biologic.) was having a too-low white blood cell count.

If your liver enzymes were too high, that could be a failure. If it

just wasn't effective at controlling your pain and inflammation, that

could be a failure. I'm sure that others will have some more ideas.

Welcome ! Sorry about your dx, but glad you found our

group. You will find so much information about RA, and great support

too. When I came to this group, I didn't know much about it. But,

now I know more about it, and that other's share what I have to deal

with, so I'm not alone. We go through pain, depression, and just

know that were always here for you.

I'm sorry that your not very happy with your rheumy. I would just

keep looking, and try to find one that you like, it's so important.

Some doctors sometimes overlook patient's feelings, and they

shouldn't do that. They should walk in our shoes, they wouldn't like

it, that's for sure. You just do the best that you can do, Tawny

In her book, The Miracle of Magnesium, Carolyn Dean, MD, talks about the

high value of a Mg test developed in a New York City hospital/med center.

I wonder if these two tests are the same or different.

Another good Mg site is _www.mgwater.com_ (http://www.mgwater.com)

The intracellular test is different than an RBC mag test in that they

sample from tissues collected from the inside of your cheek rather

than doing a blood draw. There's much more info on the site that I

mentioned in my previous post. It's my understanding that the

intracellular test gives a much more complete picture as to what is

really happening as regards the body's mineral status.

By the way, here's a very good and VERY LONG page that has a lot of

info regarding both magnesium and taurine. The author has collected a

lot of research that's worth reading I think. Don't let the title

fool you. It's not just about depression:

The page's author sells Mag Taurate on the site, but I have no

financial interest in the company.
