Hi Starr and Welcome!

I am so sorry you are in so much pain, but I know what

you mean. They say you are only as hold as you feel

and I often wonder " How old AM I than ? "

You do not sound like you are feeling sorry for

yourself. You sound like you are in pain and want and

need help and support. And that is why this group

exists.

We are one big family, with support and help for all.

And anyone who wants to vent and cry and scream or

joke and laugh or just talk to others who understand

what it is like, can come here and do so.

So with that, Welcome to the family and I hope you can

find what you are looking for here.

If I can't serve as a good example, then I guess I'll just have to serve as a

horrible warning.

Starr,

Hi, and welcome to the group. We're happy that you found us too!

I'm sorry that you have been diagnosed with Fibro at such a young

age. I know how hard that is...I'm only 33 myself.

Please don't think that your whole life has to end, or that you have

to stop living because you've been diagnosed with Fibro. Yes, it

does change your life, and you do have to make a lot of adjustments,

but there CAN be life after diagnosis.

You mentioned twice in your post that you are sad. Does your

treating doctor have you on an anti-depressant? If not, please

bring it up with him/her. Anti-depressants are a KEY part of

Fibromyalgia treatment. It will help relieve the sadness you are

feeling, and it can also help with pain and also if you are having

any sleep issues. The biggest majority of us on here take on a/d or

another. I take Celexa myself. Some research suggests that there

is a link between serotonin deficiency and Fibromyalgia...but what I

know is that it's a good starting off point.

You don't say in your post what, if any, meds you are currently

taking in the way of treatment. Does your doctor have you on a

regimen? The right treatment regimen can be crucial to your success

in attaining a functional level. I say functional, because " low

pain " or " pain-free " only come in spurts at best. I have

reached " some " stability with my Fibro, yet I still have a degree of

pain.

Nutrition, exercise, and sleep play a big role in living well with

Fibro. A healthy diet is a must. Giving up caffeine, sugars,

processed foods, and avoiding MSG helps a lot. Research also states

that eating a diet that is proportionately higher in lean protein,

and lower in carbs, particularly simple carbs, can help too. The

theory is that proteins are a better source of energy for muscles.

Complex carbs, such as whole grains and veggies, are okay, but

sugars, and processed flours are out. Fruits are okay in

moderation, as their sugar is from a natural source. Stevia is a

good alternative to sugar.

Exercise is a must, even if it's just doing some light stretching

exercises. I know it's hard when you are in pain, but if you stop

moving altogether, it actually makes pain worse because your muscles

will stiffen up with the lack of use. Walking and water aerobics

are good forms of exercise for us, as is yoga. I've also been

hearing a lot about Pilates.

Sleep, the right kind, is absolutely crucial. Research has shown

that people with Fibro have difficulty reaching stage 4 sleep, which

is the stage where the body restores and repairs itself. The lack

of stage 4 sleep increases the pain level. If you have a lot of

trouble sleeping, or staying asleep, talk to your doctor. There are

a lot of good meds that can help you.

It's great that you found your true love. How does he handle your

illness? I'm assuming he's adjusted to it pretty well if he knows

about it, and is still your true love!

If you ever need anything, even if it's just to talk, or vent, or

whatever, please feel free to write me. All of my contact info will

be listed below. Take care of yourself, and I hope we can help you

get to feeling better soon!

Hi Starr-

My name is Tina K and I just wanted to respond to your post because

I think i know how you feel. I am only 23 years of age and have been

battling Fibro for years. I just got the DX in May, but you know as

well as i do that the trouble starts BEFORE the DX!! You mentioned

it is hard to cope with, for one reason, because you are so young. I

understand this completely. Like i said, i'm 23 and am filing for

disability. I live at home with my parents, who luckily are

WONDERFUL and my mom has fibro as well. It has been so difficult for

me this year to find myself getting worse so quickly and having to

watch parts of my life move on without me. My friends are getting

married, having kids, starting careers....... and well.... you know

what it's like. I am so happy that you have found your 'love of your

life'. That is one issue that scares me, that i have not found that

person yet, and it's hard to believe you will when it's so hard to

leave the house to meet anyone!! LOL If you ever need a perspective

from someone 'closer' to your age feel free to talk with me.

Everyone here is great and the encouragement/help is beyond

wonderful. But i know how it is to be in this situation so young.

*For anyone else reading this, i do not intend to make anyone else's

situation seem less tramatic. I'm just pointing out that there are

different Situations with ages.*

Hugs and Hope

Tina k

I know how both of you feel. We have 'kind of' traced my symptoms back 10 years...I'm 30 now with children. But some of my symptoms go back wayyy farther. Like my insomnia and even some muscle problems, more a lack of strength in them...

I would do 'almost' anything to get my old life back for my children, partner and myself, I miss ME... :c(

While it is wonderful to share our experiences with everyone on the list as to what treatments do and don't work for us, pls always check with your dr. Some treatments are dangerous when given along with other meds as well as to certain health conditions or just dangerous in general.2. If you are in a difficult situation (doesn't matter what it is) pls don't be afraid to ask for help. It is the first step to trying to make that situation better.Have a nice day everyone.
