Guest guest
Hi Shirley, Sometimes the doctor may say he left the nerves, but they are hard to see and identify. Even when they are left, often they are damage during the act of peeling them off the prostate. It may take up to a year or more for them to heal in this case. I suggest that you get a Vacuum Erection Device and use it for fun and to make sure the penile tissues are nourished with fresh blood often. This may prevent shrinkage of the tissues and loss of length and girth. I wish you all the bestAubrey Pilgrim, DC (Ret.) Well, remembering the tv commercials, and thinking maybe he'd be 'up' for 3-4 hours, he took 100mg. at 7:30, while our kids were still at basketball practice. At 8 we snuggled into bed, but nothing. 8:30 the kids got home, bringing cake to celebrate the ZERO PSA. Is it common to have NO reaction to the Viagra? Guest guest
Hi Shirley, If you go to www.google.com and search for Vacuum Erection Devices (VED) you will see lots of sources and photos. If your husband has insurance or Medicare, they should pay for the device if you get the doctor to give you a prescription. Otherwise you can buy one without a prescription. The cost may range from $80 up to $300 or so. If you go to http://www.prostatepointers.org/prostate/lay/apilgrim/ and click on Chapters 17 and 18 you will see lots of information about Erectile Dysfunction. Guest guest
Hi Rick, You can have an orgasm without the erectile nerves. For me though it takes more stimulation. Look at website: roboticoncology.com under " Sex " I can tell you you can trust this site. It's from a top doc at a top hospital. I hope you will take this seriously. You can have sex in the meantime using injections. It is not as much an injection as a pinprick. Guest guest
Hi-- I can tell you for sure that Viagra does not work. see roboticoncology.com. Only thing helps long-term is injections. You should see an ED doctor asap because now is the window for his recovery. Trust me. This is all reliable info. Guest guest
Leah, I think it is wrong to make definitive statements suc h as the ones you make here. Many of the men who have used Viagra, Cialis etc have reported positive outcomes – see their stories on the Yana site. The late Young had a specific section on his site dealing with sexuality and issues surrounding gthat – people might find it helpful to go along there the URL is http://www.phoenix5.org/sexaids.html All the best Terry Herbert in Melbourne Australia Diagnosed ‘96: Age 54: Stage T2b: PSA 7.2: Gleason 3+3=6: No treatment. Guest guest
Leah and all, this is what is said at the site you mention - http://www.roboticoncology.com./sex_prostate_surgery/ Note that it does not say that Viagra does not work nor does it say that the only thing that helps is penile injections. Oral Medications As you start feeling better after surgery, begin being intimate again with your partner to reestablish the physical and emotional closeness you had prior to surgery. Celebrate together the fact that you’ve been victorious over cancer! Anticipate that you will soon regain the ability to have an erection. You might want to start by trying the simplest method of treatment, the oral medications such as Viagra, Cialis and Levitra. Penile injection therapy If oral medications are not effective, don’t put off having sex. It is important to continue to be sexually active, or in other words to “exercise” the penis after the prostate surgery. This is thought to give you the best chance of return function. Some researchers believe that erections enhance tissue oxygenation and suppress fibrosis (scarring). Until the nerves regenerate or recover sufficiently to respond to oral medications, penile injection therapy is the most effective and reliable way of restoring erectile function. In a recent study it was shown that it is very valuable to use injection therapy to aid erections soon after surgery to increase the chances of the return of normal function.
