Guest guest
Okay group, I've finally admitted that I must give up my morning cold cereal...can someone give me some low-carb breakfast suggestions? I can do eggs but I don't like 'em enough to do them every day...can't see tuna salad or turkey slices for breakfast...also don't care to do cooking that early in the morning. I can do my low-carb toast...but even that gets boring after a while. I need something new. Help!? Vicki
Guest guest
I am not on any low carb diet, but I do know almost everything about food due to my former anorexia and obsession with food. I eat oaymeal every morning. I eat whole grain carbs, not simple starches, and find them filling and gives me loads of energy. Beans are also wonderful (not for breakfast!!!), but my stomach can not tolerate them. Depriving yourself of necessary carbs leads to trouble, trust me. It is wise to balance your carbs with protein and unsaturated fats. I personally do not eat protein for breakfast, but the complex grains are wonderful if you don't eat a lot of protein. Hope this helps, Aroma Verde http://www.essentialsol.com

Guest guest
thanks for suggestion, ...I don't have to worry about fat. I'm actually worrying about losing too much weight. I'm 5'8 " and now am down to 118 (still feeling fine tho). I do eat sausage but it seems to want to go with eggs and as I said, I don't like to have more than a few eggs a week. In a message dated 00-06-05 23:09:13 EDT, you write: << Vicki: I frequently will fix an Italian sausage or a sausage patty in the microwave. If using link sausage, I pierce it on all " sides " so that the fat can drain out. I then roll in a paper towel to get even more of the fat out. I find that the cooked sausage is as much as 40% lighter than the uncooked suggesting that a large portion of the fat has been removed. Obviously a bit of the taste is also sacrificed. Its fast, it has no carbs and it does serve to get ones metabolism going - which is the primary purpose of breakfast anyhow (other than being hungry). >>

Guest guest
I guess it depends on your tastes, but my doctor told me that one of the best things I can do is eat leftovers from dinner the previous night. I try to cook enough to have leftovers since I've never been really big on breakfast foods. I also have a recipe for a french toast that has eggs and cottage cheese and less bread than usual since it is baked in the oven. I'll try to find it... I haven't made it in a while. Guest guest
I enjoy tortillas (your choice of types-I use high fiber ones) with just about anything wrapped in them or eaten over them. Left over stir fries become quick " nuked " breakfast wraps or scrambled egg/egg whites with vegies and a bit of cheese can be topped with salsa and eaten over the tortillas. I've also used hummus and chile as fillings. Breakfast and lunch are my larger meals because I'm pretty sedentary after dinner. Guest guest
I know that some people think eggs should be yellow. I buy " Just Whites " and love them. I was always the one trying to swap yolks for whites when we had hard boiled eggs. When I make regular eggs at home (except for deviled) I just throw the yolks away. " I deal with it mainly by skipping breakfast. The other thing is to mix things up. One day a week, we go out to the buffet around 10-11 a.m., and dine grandly on eggs and meat and canteloupe. The rest of the week, I usually wait until mid-morning or lunchtime and eat a salad or open-faced meat sandwich or something else. Rob packs various snackies and just grazes at his desk during the day. He takes rye or pumpernickel and meat and olives and low-fat cheese and dill pickles and I make him hard-boiled eggs and chicken salad and tuna salad, soups, stews, etc. " Breakfast " for Rob at work is often a can of V8 juice, zinged up with this stuff we both love called " Twang. " http://www.twang.com There are many flavors; we use the chili, lemon-lime, and the dill pickle (as well as their famous margarita salt). We also both really like Jane's Krazy Mixed-Up Salt on just about everything, and Creole seasoning. Susie

Of the three food groups, fats, protein and carbohydrates, carbs are the one food group that actually isn't essential. On the other hand, protein is vital, and must be supplied steadily, because our bodies cannot store it for future use, and fats are essential for digestion. Guest guest
" Egg Beaters " are made by Beatrice Foods. I don't know what's in them. But here is a recipe for homemade Egg Beaters I found on the web. This recipe contains, along with egg whites, canola oil, dry milk powder, yellow food coloring, and skim milk ... http://lilybbc.homepage.com/recipe/homemade_egg_beaters.html Only one-fifth of our cholesterol comes from the foods we eat. The rest is produced inside our bodies. What seems to improve our cholesterol numbers significantly is getting our diabetes in control.
