Guest guest
I'm one of those folks who like to simplify things. What works and what doesn't work. If it doesn't work...then it's no good. If it works...then that's good.  It's pretty much what I'd tell a doc. I'm not about to go the rest of my life in pain and spasms....and the pain meds are essential for that. I cannot control the spasms or the blood pressure or heart rhythm without them. If my body is going to pay the price without them...then I opt for them.  If a doc wants to do without them and it doesn't work then I won't go for it. Period. Anyway...I've already tried everything so I can safely tell a doc I've been there-done that and am not willing to " experiment " again.  Pain patients bill of rights...which include your right to refuse certain treatments  http://www.paincare.org/pain_management/advocacy/ca_bill.html  http://www.nationalpainfoundation.org/articles/552/pain-patient-bill-of-rights  " (h) A patient suffering from severe chronic intractable pain has the option to request or reject the use of any or all modalities to relieve his or her severe chronic intractable pain. "  Read it all. It's California...but I think it applies elsewhere. You'd have to check it but your right to refuse the alternate treatment is within your power. You may end up with another doc...but you do have some rights.  The very long and short is you have a right to treatment that will actually work. If you try this and it doesn't....you take it from there.  Anyway...he should have a list of pain docs and refer you if you don't wish to go thru with this.  I prefer my own family practice doc over the pain doc I've seen. My family doc listens to me and the pain doctor didn't. That simple. My family doc trusts me to be accurate about my pain and take me seriously.  He's allowed me to be part of my pain management and make suggestions that we've used and that have worked. Above all what matters to me most is my being involved and my personal knowledge of my pain being taken seriously and acted on if my request is reasonalble.  I hope you guys can work it out. I don't know if you tried that treatment yet...but if it is not helping...you should be able to give it a shot without being pulled off the med. If it doesn't help tell him no way.  I don't think we're allowed to mention doctors names in these groups...mostly it's not allowed for reasons that reasonable. Someone may use that list to try to seek drugs. I dunno.  http://www.painfoundation.org/ResourceLocator.asp  http://www.doctorsforpain.com/  http://honolulu.citysearch.com/profile/3231612/honolulu_hi/pain_management_clini\ c_hawaii.html  The American Pain Foundation has a locator you may want to look at. There are other locators as well.  Good luck. I would have had a fit in your position. I can't go thru that again.   Lotacats “I love cats because I enjoy my home; and little by little, they become its visible soul.†Twitter_follow me http://twitter.com/LotacatsFunPix Express Chronic Pain Awareness http://www.cafepress.com/lotacatspix/5815010 Lotacatsfunpix.com http://www.lotacatsfunpix.com/ Deviantart http://lotacats05.deviantart.com/ Subject: Question about Pain med & PT To: hugs-n-pain Date: Friday, August 7, 2009, 7:55 PM  Aloha Folks, I am REALLY upset with my Neurologist. I hope some of you can calm me down and give advice,  He wants to start weening me off the Narco 10-325, I have been on it since Feb. It's still working pretty good. BUT he does NOT want me on any kind of pain med just send me to PT. I have told him I am non-functional without pain med.  Things got heated and I cancelled my next appt. with him which was to do more nerve conducting.  Then I called back but to re-appoint and try to talk some sense into him.. His AD says he specializes in chronic pain. His office was closed and I left a message saying I would like to come back. They are closed on Fridays.  My question is does this sound like he's trying to get rid of me by pissing me off? Should I seek a new person who REALLY cares about their patients. Sometimes I feelh e's only doing this for money. Tell me what a typical pain management Dr. is like. More aggressive in treating pain and caring I hope?  Please feel free to offer Drs. name. I would REALKLY appreciate it.  Thanks and hugs,

Guest guest
I am sorry to hear about your Doctor. It does not sound like he is trying to get rid of you, it just sounds like he is trying to get rid of the responsibility of prescribing narcotics. I would definately seek another pain specialist who is sensitive to your needs. If you do that however, I would recommend that you write a letter of divorce to your doctor and inform him of your decision and the fact that you feel he did not respond adequately to your pain. This establishes your honesty and intent in this particular situation. THe thing they are all afraid of is " Doctor Shopping " for pain pills. Actually, I used to take the Norco 10/325 you are talking about. After a while it is just too damn much tylenol every day. I have had superb results switching to just a pain medicine only and using a Tylenol only for break through spikes. It works better that way. I hope you get the result you need. > To: Hugs-N-Pain > From: awilgus@... > Date: Sat, 8 Aug 2009 16:44:03 +0000 > Subject: Re: Question about Pain med & PT > > , > > I had 2 pain docs like that - just in it for the money. Guest guest
Alanna, I will NOT put up with any more lip service from Drs. If they were in pain you know they wouldn't put up with it. I'm glad you finally found someone to help you. You're such a nice person. I'm going to give my current Dr. one more try and if things just don't work out it's BYE, BYE. Guest guest
What I don't get is why this doc doesn't try it while she's on the meds. These drugs do not get rid of all the pain by a long shot. They only make it possible to carry one without contemplating suicide. (With the spasm from hell...I really wondered how many I had left in me...and I'm not suicidal at all...it's just plain too damn much pain.)....  So...if this treatment would work, she should be able to tell while on the meds.  I wonder if he gets her down off the meds he will just leave it that way. He doesn't want to just throw her into withdrawal...titrating her down would get that part off of his back and I'm willing to bet a dollar to a hole in a doughnut that he will not let her get tolerant again...in other words.....no more opiates..  He should try it while she's on the meds. I'm kinda suspicious....so take me with a grain of salt.  Lotacats “I love cats because I enjoy my home; and little by little, they become its visible soul.†Twitter_follow me http://twitter.com/LotacatsFunPix Express Chronic Pain Awareness http://www.cafepress.com/lotacatspix/5815010 Lotacatsfunpix.com http://www.lotacatsfunpix.com/ Deviantart http://lotacats05.deviantart.com/ From: Kurek <dkndehotmail (DOT) com> Subject: RE: Question about Pain med & PT To: hugs-n-pain@ yahoogroups. com Date: Saturday, August 8, 2009, 7:01 AM I am sorry to hear about your Doctor. Guest guest
Tolerance...I think it varies some from person to person. I do pretty well with it. The drugs have so little side effects on me.  I used to titrate addicts down and it doesn't take long at all. Several days. Depends on how high the dose you are used to. Addicts tend to get way up there but still it doesn't take too long....and they don't suffer any withdrawal symptoms if done right. The most was about a week.  The treatement is where the hard part starts. lol. If they want it bad enuff they will walk thru fire. Once down you can start over. To be truly off it takes a longer time. If you're an addict then they have to deal with craving...if you're not then no craving. The body takes a little while to completely be clean...two weeks to two months.  I'm on the MsContin now and I don't know how long it would take...at this dose not long..but I'm not going to raise the dose unless my body gets crazy again like it did with the blood pressure n stuff. That's pretty much my parameters..how my body is taking the pain. My doc and I would take it from there..but I have a long way to go. I'm on 30mg twice/day. That's pretty low so I have a ways to go.  Lotacats “I love cats because I enjoy my home; and little by little, they become its visible soul.†Twitter_follow me http://twitter.com/LotacatsFunPix Express Chronic Pain Awareness http://www.cafepress.com/lotacatspix/5815010 Lotacatsfunpix.com http://www.lotacatsfunpix.com/ Deviantart http://lotacats05.deviantart.com/ From: aloha.monica <aloha.monica@ yahoo.com> Subject: Question about Pain med & PT To: hugs-n-pain@ yahoogroups. com Date: Friday, August 7, 2009, 7:55 PM  Aloha Folks, I am REALLY upset with my Neurologist. Guest guest
, You go girl! Really all a doctor has is your word as to how bad your pain is. Any doctor who understands pain will give you the benefit of the doubt. They do need to be on guard for people who are trying to abuse the system. I've dealt with plenty of drug seekers over the years and they are easy to spot. But if you are not giving him reason to not trust you (losing pills, missing appointments, not running prescriptions through insurance, etc.), then he needs to listen to you. So go ahead and stand up for yourself- you are a good person! Hugs, Alanna Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry Question about Pain med & PT Aloha Folks, I am REALLY upset with my Neurologist. Guest guest
It is always so sad that there are people out their who run from Dr. to Dr. getting medications so that they could either get high or they could sell the meds. So the poor doctors have a really hard time prescribing more drugs when they can't " see " anything that could be causing that much pain. You are doing the best thing possiblt though. My last appt. with my Neurologist he was going to start weening me off the Narco. Then I told him I had afast pulse around100. He said PT alone could take care of my pain. iI was in SHOCK! I told him it would help but not take care of ALL my pain. He said we'll cross that bridge when we get there. If it weren't for my racing pulse he wasn;t going to give me more pain med. I have NEVER given him any reason to doubt my pain. I have NEVER asked for pain med. before my next appt. I have no idea what running Insurance is. Also NEVER missed an appt. in 6 months. Subject: Re: Question about Pain med & PT To: Hugs-N-Pain Date: Saturday, August 8, 2009, 6:44 AM , I had 2 pain docs like that - just in it for the money. I hope some of you can calm me down and give advice, He wants to start weening me off the Narco 10-325, I have been on it since Feb. It's still working pretty good. BUT he does NOT want me on any kind of pain med just send me to PT. I have told him I am non-functional without pain med. Guest guest
It seems they can work out something so we can prove we don't do that. Some way to identify ourselves and have the pharmacies connected so they can catch the people who do that.  It really takes time to build up trust with your doctor and develope a good relationship so your doctor knows you are on his side as well as your own. That you would protect him by not doing those things and that you understand his dilemma as well..  My doctor and I talked about it. He also said the DEA is behind a lot of the difficulty with us getting treatment.  So we need to work on them as well and keep up a strong code of conduct among painers. That we never get another script from another doctor without him knowing...and everyone is on the same page. I had to do that with dental surgery and the Urgent Care. The Urgent Care diagnosed my undertreatment and was aware of the meds I was on...so there was no sneaky sneaky. Then my doctor knew everything within two days...when we went to MsContin.  Our docs need to know we follow a code of conduct and understand what they are under. Something like that. Guest guest
I know Donnie and it pisses me off big time! My VERY first visit with him he said " If you have to stay on pain meds that it wouldn't be a problem " . Now he's changing his tune and it's making me a nervous wreck. If I see him again I will remind him what he said. Guest guest
Lesley, It is sad that a few people trying to be " entrepreneurs " have to ruin it for people who legitimately need pain medications. As long as a doctor tries to be prudent when prescribing narcotics, the DEA would never go after them. That is a paranoid cop out that a lot of doctors use. Hope you have a good night. Hugs, Alanna Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry Re: Question about Pain med & PT It is always so sad that there are people out their who run from Dr. to Dr. getting medications so that they could either get high or they could sell the meds. So the poor doctors have a really hard time prescribing more drugs when they can't " see " anything that could be causing that much pain. You are doing the best thing possiblt though. Guest guest
Do you know the doctors he is seeing? I little note written to them about this guy wouldn't hurt. These guys hurt the docs as well as us. I mean...has this guy actually admitted to doing this? I'm trying to see how I'd act in the same situation. Maybe I'd talk to my pharamacist to see what means of control they have in situations like this or where you report this behavior if you're sure this is what is happening. Guest guest
yah I guess I could break out the camcorder next time he is doing something he isn't supposed to do. I did something similar when he chained up a toy poodle mixed dog in his backyard with no shelter, frozen water, sub zero temps, and severe mats in it's fur. I never actually thought about videotaping him...that is a really good idea!!!!!!
