Hi folks,

Merry Christmas to you all.

Somdetime ago, there was info posted about the Glucowatch, I thought I had

saved it, but I can't find it.

I have a friend who keeps having very low sugars during the night, and has

passed out a couple of times.

If that info could be reposted, or sent to me directly, it would be greatly

appreciated! If there are any other alarm systems that will warn you when

the sugars are getting low, please let me know.

Thank you very much.

Hi .

Best alarm for your friend is his/her blood meter *smile*. Your friend

should ttest before bed, and your friend may want to get up / set an alarm

for 3 am to test the sugar to see when it is dropping. I had to do that to

adjust my insulin so I would not go low. Sounds like what he/she needs to do

more than anything is adjust their insulin... they are taking to much or not

eating enough before bed.

Bernstein reviewed the glucowatch in his book and found that it is not

reliable. It is very sensative to tempature, that is how it tests if you are

low, and his patients were waking up all the time by the watch in the middle

of the night and losing sleep and they were not even low. I.E if you sweat

at night because your furnace is on to high, it would go off etc. Also, on

some patients, the watch would cause their skin to break out and become

inflamed so they could not use it. I think it was that it has to be stuck on

your arm or some sort of solution used that caused the irritation.

Hey no problem. there was a unit Bernstein had his eye on that looked

promising with a few modifications to it. He reviewed it and explained what

modifications would need to be performed on the unit before he would say it

was a good unit to alert a person to a low sugar. Over all though, any

current device he reviewed in his book he stated they were just not quite

reliable yet and were quite expensive for is patients.
