Guest guest
Dennis, Maybe if you drop it slower it wouldn't be so bad. If you've been on prednisone for a long period of time, you have to drop it very slowly. It isn't easy. Have you talked to your doctor about using pain meds to help you get through the decrease in prednisone? Sulfasalazine is used for both RA and Crohn's. Guest guest
My Rheumy will only prescribe Ultram for pain, might as well be candy. Fortunately, my regular doc will give me what I really need. I'm taking 7.5 mg Vicadin for pain, 1 1/2 pills 3 times a day, and sometimes that's not enough. Even Darvocet didn't help me, and I can't take NSAIDs because they are messing with my kidneys. I've got a long way to go. :<( Dennis Re: [ ] sulfasalazine ? and more > > Dennis, > Maybe if you drop it slower it wouldn't be so bad. Guest guest
Ultram does nothing for me, either, except make me dizzy. It does absolutely nothing for the pain. Neither does Davocet. It just makes me feel " bad " . Vicodin is the only pain med I've ever taken that helps with the pain and doesn't make me feel loopy or sick. As for over-the-counter pills, I can take Aleve, but I usually have to take 4 pills to make a difference. I know that's too much, so I don't take it very often. I can't take Tylenol with the other meds I'm on, and ibuprofen doesn't do anything for me at all. Fortunately I've got a high pain tolerance, so I usually only take the Vicodin when I've got to go out. If I'm staying at home, I usually just put up with it or try other means like laying down, using ice or heat, etc. Vikki Re: [ ] sulfasalazine ? and more > > Dennis, > Maybe if you drop it slower it wouldn't be so bad. Guest guest
Women are blessed by having a higher pain tolerance built in. We men are wimps in comparison, so we need to be treated with 'kid's gloves' and coddled a lot. After reading Pula's reply, I decided to use the alternating levels, 10 mg one day and 9 mg the next. In reading about additional meds, I see that there are none that work immediately. The problem I'm having requires immediate help, so I can't just cut down on Prednesone and take an added med. I'll make it or not... Dennis Re: [ ] sulfasalazine ? and more > > Ultram does nothing for me, either, except make me dizzy. It does > absolutely nothing for the pain. Neither does Davocet. Guest guest
Check this out. I am excited!!!! http://www.weather.com/activities/other/other/weather/tenday.html?locid=USNC0326 [ ] sulfasalazine ? and more All my doctors have told me that I have to get off Prednesone, so I'm trying again. It seems that I drop from my normal 10 mg to 9 mg, and I can't get past the pain that I suffer. It's a small decrease, but it whips me every time. Today I'm hurting from my hair to toenails. Does anyone have a trick or advice for me, or do I just suffer through it? I'm looking at possible meds my Rheumy will prescribe for me after talking to his nurse and having a list he gave me of the meds. Why would he prescribe the sulfasalazine for my RA, and not Crohn's, which I don't have? The other meds on his list are Plaquenil and azathioprine. Which of the 3 is better or are they all basically the same? Ken, I've had this mess for 15 years and remember having almost the same dragging, boring time you're talking about. For a long while, I moved the bed into the living room. That way I didn't have to walk much at all. One thing I did to help me was to get a motorcycle, a Honda Gold Wing. When I needed fresh air, I'd jump on it. Well, I kinda crawled to it, actually. It has cruise control and reverse, so it's not much of a problem to operate, and the fresh air and beautiful surroundings make you forget about your problems for a while. It worked for me because it was a distraction that helped. Now, after turning the bike into a trike so it won't fall over, I'm into building my race car and things like that. You've got to do something, even if it's just playing games on your new computer. That's another thing I do. I build my own computers, write programs for them, and do other work on them.
