Guest guest
Hey!, I think you might be on to something here. I am using fresh Humalog and fresh Lantus, and for the past few days my blood sugars have been going up, even though I increase the dose of Humalog for each meal and also increased the basil dose of Lantus. Yet my glucose levels seems to be creeping up, and I have been blaming it on the nuts I have been eating, but I haven't been eating hardly any more nuts than I have eaten before. Also my feet and hands are cold, and I have gone to wearing two pair of socks to keep my feet from turning into ice cubes, and they are still cold. It is freezing in these north Georgia mountains for the past few days. Does Dr. Bernstein say any thing specific about the weather and diabetes? It sounds like a plausible theory at this point. I will watch out for what happens. My fingers are like little ice sickles. Also I am at the point of giving up late night snacks altogether, since this may also be the cause for my higher morning glucose blood levels. weather effecting blood sugar > BTW for the past 3 mornings I was running sugars in the 200 range and > previously was running them in the 90 range. Guest guest
, if the weather effects your blood sugars Do you or Dr. Bernstein believe in Moonlighting blood sugars? I on occasion will suddenly drop like a rock. I am a Juvenal Diabetic. I have been told it can't be. I see it happen to often to discount it off the bat. With warm wishes T. Guest guest
I agree that temperatures affect your blood sugars. I am particularly affected by high temperatures-have to always carry glucose tabs with me when I'm out in the heat. I went to the doc today and got my A1C back. It has gone up to 5.9 from 5.5 .. I'm not surprised as I have had a lot of trouble keeping the BG stable since starting with the kidney problems. Lots of ups and downs. the colesterol etc. is very good, however! I am having ear surgery on Friday-they are goiing to take out the mastoid and make a new ear drum. Hopefully that will cear up the chronic infections I have been having for the last 3 years. weather effecting blood sugar BTW for the past 3 mornings I was running sugars in the 200 range and previously was running them in the 90 range. Insulin bottles were just changed and no infection in my body. I had to increase my long acting by 2 units and this morning was at 103. I know that this was caused from the change in weather in my area. When it gets cold outside, the cold temperature effects my metabolism and blood sugars. This isn't the case for everyone but is certainly true in some diabetics and I am one of those. When summer roles around again, I'll have to adjust my insulin some again back down etc. I used to theorize that the change in temperature effected my blood sugars and my family and friends would think I was crazy. Only one who seen it/believed it was my wife *smile*. However, I read in Doctor Bernstein's book that he has patients that this is true with so it was cool to see that my theory was true in other patients. BTW he practises in New York, right next to Ohio, so he experiences the same tempature chages that I do here in Ohio ranging from extremely hot/humid temperatures in the summers to extremely low/below freezing temperatures in the winter. regards,

Guest guest
well, Bernstein just states to adjust accordingly. You just watch your sugars harry and adjust accordingly. You have to check pre meal and 2 hour post meal to follow it accurately and to know how to adjust your insulin. I see you skipping several 2 hour post meal tests and you probably don't want to do that with the current bgs control you are experiencing. Get back to eating 15 grams per meal as well I see varying carb grams per meal until you get your 2 hour post test 120 or less and your pre meal 80. In other words, when you see sugars going off the board, get back to the basics... 15 grams per meal and test pre meal and 2 hour post meal since that data will help you adjust your insulin accordingly. It looks as though you are actually doing somewhat of guess work here rather than workingwith concrete data/figures. When warm weather comes around again, pull out your old ratios and get back to them. Next year, when cold weather rolls around again, pull out your cold weather insulin ratios and use them *smile*. We are talking data here man, not guess work *smile*. BTW ratios adjusted to 15 grams per meal is what I am referring to. regards, weather effecting blood sugar > > > > BTW for the past 3 mornings I was running sugars in the 200 range and > > previously was running them in the 90 range. Guest guest
Thanks, I am home after the surgery and did pretty well. They did not need to do as an extensive ear surgery as they thought (thank goodness) and I went home the next day. the BG's went up to about 197, but were down by the next day, and the endocrinologist was delighted! For a change, I had very little nausea post anestesia, so that helped. Now I will have to wait about a month before the hearing in that ear all returns. Hearing out of one side of the head has made me dizzy, so I'm not using the dog yet. but things will improve; they always do! Guest guest
Pat, I'm glad to hear the surgery was successful and not as involved as they thought it would be. Wow, having partial hearing might give you a better appreciation for the def... as I read how you don't have the best balance... I think of my one friend who is blind and has only hearing in her left ear. Makes you appreciate what you have don't it? regards, weather effecting blood sugar > > > > > > > > > BTW for the past 3 mornings I was running sugars in the 200 range and > > > previously was running them in the 90 range. Guest guest
Thanks for telling it like it is. This is why it is most important for the patient or diabetic person to be the expert in the management and control of diabetes rather than the medical doctor/physician being the expert. I have never had a doctor feel pain, suffering or experience discomfort over any of my pain or sorrow. On the other hand they have profited immeasurably by it. Re: weather effecting blood sugar > > > > Yes, Moon lighting is the imaginary? condition ware a blood sugar seems to > drop out of the blue. Guest guest
well, it is like anything in life... you see your doctor once a month and sometimes once every two months. Lets use an example. If I was to program on my job and be darn good at it, but only went for training once a month for 20 minutes, would I be successful? Heck no! I have to learn on my own, pull the books out, study various programming languages, methods, and study my butt off on my own time. This is how it is with managing diabetes. If you rely on a once a month visit to doc pops to help you master your own individualized case of diabetes, you'll be in trouble. A patient has to be pro-active and learn a lot on his/her own aside from the doc. regards, Re: weather effecting blood sugar > > > > > > > Yes, Moon lighting is the imaginary? condition ware a blood sugar seems > to > > drop out of the blue. Guest guest
LOL LOL LOL and your a type 1 diabetic LOL. Sorry, couldn't resist to laugh at that one. Hahahaha pancreas shooting out some insulin as a type 1 LOL. Here we have proof that docs just don't quite know it all folks. Gotta be that pro-active patient and learn and study your own body and adjust accordingly. regards, Re: weather effecting blood sugar > I think I can swallow that a lot easer then the one I was given. I was told my pankrious may spontaneously produce insulin when I sleep. Mind you, this was over years ago. Thanks for the pep talk > >
