Guest guest
Really Adolfo .I am gullible but even I have my limits I just called my carrier I can have a locums for 30 days and give him my malpr. coverage for free 30 days/yr No cost.. there is an app to make the bed.(just kidding)Adolfo E. Teran, MD Do you need to make alot of money?if not ... I wonder if you can do anything entrepreneurial and cover IMPS? Use the list serv as a base of opportunity MOst people do not understand open access but you would and you'd GET the tech stuff to work with our systems and so on . YOu might not be able to earn much , depends... we are poor and have low flow practices Except for Brady and Ho.You could get to go nice places You would be a known to us Not some company locums none of us would ever hire. YOu might house sit which would get the cats fed and your houseing expense reduces.Depends on what you want and need. AS opposed to sign up with Comp Health and work like a dog for committments no less than a month where you get good money to slave away in just different settings than the one you left We have in the last 4 yrs seen a few IMPS who had illness and coul d have used someone to perhpas earn what they brought in and work maybe 2-4 days a weekI understand that getting license and malpractice( don;t most of our polices cover the locums to for illness or maybe vacation) is messy but still it has potential unless you need real high income. I am making up the bed in the spare room now..... Good morning to everybody. I hope everybody had a very nice holiday. As the new year approaches, I am actively considering other opportunities in medicine. One of these is Locum Tenens. So a question for the group is does anyone have experience with any primary care friendly Locum Tenens companies? Although it would be ideal to proceed without a third party, the complications of licensure, insurance etc. seem to mandate working with a company. Also, needless to say if anyone has any ideas or leads to any other opportunities out there, feel free to contact me off the list. Guest guest
Hi Lou, I have worked off and on with Weatherby Healthcare since 2004. At the time, I already was licensed in 4 states and had 2 DEA numbers. However, I currently maintain 2 state licenses, IL and WI as I live on the state-line border. I have been very satisfied with the agents (I've had two) in that time and felt they have responded to my concerns and requests. I have had some very nice assignments with them. On most assignments, I've worked 3-4 days as a locums and am free to work for myself the other days of the week. The locations were far enough away (40-200 miles) that along with the number of days I worked, they supplied a rental car for the length of the assignment. In some cases, for several months at a time. They also supply hotels (when needed), gas reimbursement, malpractice insurance, etc. They will help with any necessary licensure. I recently needed to obtain another DEA number for the state of IL as I had let one of two lapse. I had been working only in 1 state for ~2 yrs. They were willing to pay for 1/2 of the fee and did what they could to facilitate the processing. Doing locums work has sustained me as I begin to rebuild a practice. I have no direct financial involvement unless you are interested and choose to let them know I referred you. They will send a check if you refer someone. I don't remember the exact amount. However, it is several hundred dollars. I have posted this on the listserv. However, feel free to contact me off site if you wish.
