Guest guest
<<Sorry to complain so much but just feel crappy/crabby! Kandy>> Dear Kandy, When I had no insurance I was able to get some medical care from the county health department. It might be a good thing to inquire about to see if that is available to you. I was finally able to get HMO insurance in connection with a job (working for the county) as part of my union benefits. When I left that job the COBRA law made it so I could continue with it by paying the monthly premium. Even pre-existing conditions are covered. That job I had just sucked but getting insurance made it a dream job. in Oregon
Guest guest
When you have to leave a job, (assuming that you're not going right into another one) you should always take the COBRA if there's anyway to afford it. Not only do you continue your current coverage, but if you get new insurance within the COBRA period (and your coverage has not lapsed for 61 days or more) the new insurance is supposed to accept all pre-existing conditions without the waiting period. I struggled to make COBRA payments when I was laid off last year (oddly enough, the day after my diagnosis)and it made all the difference when I got my next job. Without the continuous coverage, I would have had to wait 3 extra months to get coverage for my dm supplies and meds.
