Guest guest
Did anyone watch 60 minutes last night? There was a story about a man who is in prison for 25 years. His crime? Having chronic pain and trying to do something about it. He was injured in an accident and the pain was unbearable. His Dr. in NJ gave him adequate pain meds, but, after he moved to Fl. the doctor there wouldn't give him what he needed. So, he asked his NJ doctor to send him prescriptions for what he needed and he did. Then a pharmacist got suspicious and notified police. They put him under surveillance for three months then arrested him for drug trafficking. They said there was no way he could have taken that amount of pain meds himself without over dosing therefore he had to be selling them. At first his NJ doctor backed him up but, he got nervous about being accused of wrongdoing so he changed his mind and said all the prescriptions were forgeries. So, the man was sentenced to 25 years in prison. He is now in a wheelchair because he subsequently developed MS. The police and prosocutors wouldn't listen to a doctor who is a pain specialist when he told them that over time, people can built up enough of a tolerance that they can take a huge amount of pain pills and not overdose. Ironicly, the man who is now in prison, has a morphine pump that keeps him pain-free. He is appealing his conviction.
