Guest guest
Do you need to make alot of money?if not ... I wonder if you can do anything entrepreneurial and cover IMPS? Use the list serv as a base of opportunity MOst people do not understand open access but you would and you'd GET the tech stuff to work with our systems and so on . YOu might not be able to earn much , depends... we are poor and have low flow practices Except for Brady and Ho.You could get to go nice places You would be a known to us Not some company locums none of us would ever hire. YOu might house sit which would get the cats fed and your houseing expense reduces.Depends on what you want and need. AS opposed to sign up with Comp Health and work like a dog for committments no less than a month where you get good money to slave away in just different settings than the one you left We have in the last 4 yrs seen a few IMPS who had illness and coul d have used someone to perhpas earn what they brought in and work maybe 2-4 days a weekI understand that getting license and malpractice( don;t most of our polices cover the locums to for illness or maybe vacation) is messy but still it has potential unless you need real high income. I am making up the bed in the spare room now..... Good morning to everybody. I hope everybody had a very nice holiday. As the new year approaches, I am actively considering other opportunities in medicine. One of these is Locum Tenens. So a question for the group is does anyone have experience with any primary care friendly Locum Tenens companies? Although it would be ideal to proceed without a third party, the complications of licensure, insurance etc. seem to mandate working with a company. Also, needless to say if anyone has any ideas or leads to any other opportunities out there, feel free to contact me off the list. Guest guest
Lou, I think you can work at a federal facility (VA, military hospitals/clinics, Native American health service, etc) with a license from any state so you could look for short-term opportunities there. Also, some local family medicine colleagues have recently done stints (not stents) in Australia and New Zealand...can get their contact info if you'd like. Guest guest
hey... thanks for all the responses so far. The short answer as to how much money I need-is not too much (perhaps 30 or 40 K. above expenses). Of course, for that I would not want to work incredibly hard either. The main issue is malpractice insurance as well as getting state licensure. An interesting Robin Hood model for IMP locum tenens would be to work one or two months in a traditional model that would yield $$ and then be able to work IMP locum for substantially less money. Of course the New Zealand and Australia idea has already crossed my radar screen-we are actually planning a New Zealand trip winter of 2013. (It's summer there of course :-) ) Lou
