Guest guest
Byrd Produces Prostate Cancer Awareness Film By: Alyssa Rashbaum September 28, 2005 Maybe you weren't aware that September was Prostate Cancer Awareness month, but there's still a few days left to take notice. Actor, producer and health advocate Byrd worked with the American Cancer Society to promote awareness of prostate cancer with the independent film The Last Dayz. Along with co-producer Blossom Brown, Byrd created this film to spread the message of the seriousness of the disease, to encourage people to get properly tested, and to alert the public to the fact that the disease can occur among African Americans as early as age 15. Byrd himself stars in the film, which has been screened at health fairs and lectures throughout New York City. However, there is also power in one person, and oftentimes it takes a visionary to step forth, to break new ground, to look at something differently, and to set an idea in motion.
