Hi Theresa,

Since nothing else has worked for my husband - Neurontin, Amitriptyline,

Depakote, Tegretol - he is currently starting the 2nd month trying Cymbalta -

does not seem to be helping much yet but is soon to tell.

It scares me seeing the stories of people having difficult time to come off of

it. My husband is going to be quite put off to try different meds if this does

not work and he has big issues getting off of the Cymbalta. Not good to think

about - though I understand this is the case with many of the meds that are

tried.

Hello Marita,

I'm currently on Cymbalta. I take 90mg and had no side affects. I'm on

it for depression and to help with my pain. It does help with some pain. I like

the drug. Its very expensive though. I have good insurance through Medicare so I

only pay $5 for it. Its a very good drug but everyones body reacts to it

differently. The only way to find out about it is to try it and see what

happens. Good luck and have a great week.

Marita....Your very welcome. There are many people on this list that take

Cymbalta and have good affects from it.

HI Kath,

I have been on cymbalta for almost a year now. It also has helped the

depression that goes hand in hand with pain but I can't see a difference in the

pain level either. What a bummer. I thought when the dr. prescribed it, it

would be the answer to everything. It hasn't been.

It's not a part of my formulary either and I pay $25 a month. But, it is well

over $110 a month without any insurance.

I live in New England and the weather has been awful. Warm on week and our

stove is running this week. I have a bad back and arthritis in my hands so bad

that somedays I can't even button a shirt.

Does your husband take anything else for pain? It seems that nothing works

for everything. Too bad they don't invent a pill that cures everything.

Good luck and keep your faith up.

I was prescribed Cymbalta to replace Zoloft. It has

taken a long while for me to see that Cymbalta works

just as well as Zoloft.

I was saddened to read that Cymbalta doesn't help with

pain. I had been in a pain management program from

3/2 to 3/29 and had hoped my physical pain would go

down but it hasn't even in the days after exiting the

program. I am however, handling the pain better

mentally. I do not think about my pain as much as I

used to. How long this lasts I do not know and hope

after I meet with my doctor to disucss the pain

management report(once he gets it that is.) We can

discuss what was in the report and what the

recommendations are.

Sincerely,

Christy

Hello group,

I have been going crazy. By the time I get a min to be here I am to

tired to even start.

I have a big question though. This doctor wants the Duragesic gone

in the next 2 weeks. I am going to go down to 12.5 mg next week and

that is for 1 week. No matter that because I am hurting so bad I

don't care take it away but what are we doing next. Well he said I

want you to start out with Cymbalta 30 and then move up to 60 mg.

What have any of you heard about this drug. I seem to remember a

while ago people were talking about it and not in too good of terms

if I am correct.

Please post or reply personally to me about your experiences. I am

going to have a Lumbar Facet Joint Injections hopefully this coming

Friday. Have any of you good folks had this either?

He doesn't want me to start the Cymbalta till after the injections.

Please let me know what you guys know about both of these issues.

Thanks so much.

Hi Beth,

My husband has been on Cymbalta for several months.

It was started for depression and pain. It has helped with

depression. It has not helped with pain as much as we had hoped.

Though it has taken some of the restlessness away from the

pain. Hard to explain. Jon has tingling sharp pain through his

left leg from nerve damage in his lower back. He never used

to be able sit still and was constanly moving his leg around - now

his leg is still - but he still has pain

he is also on oxycontin, tramadol, Abian CR

Take care,

Kath

While everyone's experience is different, for my Cymbalta is one med that I

will never ever put in my body again. Biggest reason being it gave horrible

withdrawals to get off of it.... so bad that I had to go back on the bloody

thing 2 times before finally getting off of it. And this was a slow

withdrawal. I finally just stuck it out and was sick for quite some time.

I had to go off of it because it increased my blood pressure, caused a lot

of weight gain (not good for someone with high bp), caused involuntary

muscle movements, and also was of no help with pain. Sorry I don't have

something better to report.

Thanks so much for your imput. I don't know maybe I do need an attitude

adjustment. I have felt like " death warmed over " for the past 2 years.

But I sure hope that it helps with the nerve pain. I do take Lyrica too

maybe the combination.

I have heard that it is awful to stop taking and I am wondering if some

doctor now is going to want to take that away and I have to go thru the

withdrawals from it like the patch that I am replacing it with. If they

are both so bad and " addicting " why switch one for another?????

He told me that it upsets your stomach pretty bad for about 2 weeks is

that true for anyone?

Thanks again for all of your help.

Oh no! Yet another one of the anti-depressants with addictive/dependant

qualities. It seems all the new ones are this way...Effexor being the worst. If

you plan to stay on them forever then it is not a problem, but most people

don't.

I've taken all of the older ones, prozac, zoloft, celexa, even desiprimine and

never had withdrawels. These new ones might work better but then you have to

worry about withdrawels. Don't we have enough problems being depressed in the

first place?

Beth, my husband has been taking it for 3 weeks now. He went from 30mg to

60mg a week ago and he didn't have any problems with an upset stomach.
