Bummer Heidi. My husband and I tried your " method " after reading about it on

Dr. Glazers list. We too were successful that night, but I have been dealing

with a flare-up since then. I am unable to tell if the two are connected. We

will try again. (I also have had success with the lidocaine and will continue

to use that if necessary). We are also trying to get pregnant....may the

force be with us (heehee)!

Hang in there Heidi! I'm sure all of us can relate to

this. My husband and I were able to have intercouse

with no pain only the next time had pain at the end

and then for 3 days. Yesterday out of the blue I had

awful pain and itching in the vulvar area, still

having it today. Before yesterday I only had pain in

the vestible area. I'm praying it won't keep getting

worse.

This disease is so awful it keeps teasing us where we

feel great for awhile get our hopes up thinking maybe

it's over, and then get them crushed.

Stay strong and keep focusing on the positive parts

and focus on the future. It has to get better!!

Here's hoping for the pitter patter of little feet

soon!!

---My doctor has me on the 1500 calorie diet also. It took me about 2

weeks to lose ten but I always loose more in the first couple of

weeks. Of course this is the same ten I lost 2 years ago and it

found its way back and now it left again, hopefully for good.

From here on it should be about 1 to 2 pounds a week.

Congrats, . It's nice to have a good beginning, makes it easier

to stick with it. I am just taking it five pounds at a time. Doesn't

seem so out of reach that way!

She probably lost a lot of fluid, so the first week should be okay. One to

two pounds per week is normal, though.

Good morning Group

It's veen quite a while since I posted an update. I just spent the last 10 days

at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester. I went in for a recheck on my Neuropathy (not

diabetic, but unknown cause). They did a sweat test which showed that the

Neuropathy has definitely moved from both my feet to both my legs. They also

did a nerve conduction study that verified what the sweat test showed. They did

a complete body MRI that showed some things wrong - DDD in my back - lower back,

An enlarged liver - a possible side effect of certain long term meds that I

take, Both knees are bad, especially the left knee. It has given out on me

twice in three weeks as I was going down the stairs. Both times I ended up

sliding down the stairs. The last time I sprained my knee. They aren't

thinking about surgery yet, but it is a possibility in the future. I have two

new diagnosis - arthritis in my knees, elbows and fingers and Fibro - wasn't

surprised because of the constant pain in my neck and shoulder right below the

shoulder blade. They've made recommendations to my primary doctor as for

treatment and meds. I see her this afternoon. She will like go along with

their recommendations. She has patients that have the same conditions that I

have and has been treating them for a long time. I've talked to one patient -

chance meeting - that has neuropathy and she has been quite please with the

doctor and her treatment and pain meds.

My current meds are Lamictal 100 mg 2 x's/day, Neurontin 500 mg/day, Synthroid

100 mcg/day, Coumidan 25 mcg/day, Darvocet 100 mg 3 x's/day and Tylenol 3 150 mg

3 x's/day.

My depression/SAD has gotten worse. It's hung on longer that normal. Both

myself and the Doctor are quite concerned about it. I've gone for days at a

time without getting dressed. We think that it is related to my pain levels.

I've been keeping a journal and will look at it this afternoon with her.

The arthritis has slowed me down some with my crocheting of afaghans. I can

only do it for so long each day and then I have to quit. I've been making a lot

of afaghans for nieces, nephews, new babies and grand babies. My grand daughter

was born on Halloween, my nephew is getting married in May, my niece is due the

first part of July, my step daughter is due the end of July, and two nieces

getting married in September. I have 2 1/2 afaghans to go. I have confidence

that the Lord will let me get them done in time.

Welcome to all the new members. I look forward to getting to know you and

giving you input as it relates to me.

Hugs

Diane, I also have non-Diabetic neuropathy so I read your post with

interest. About 3 ½ years ago, I got an intense pain in my butt and down my

leg that was diagnosed as sciatica. When returning from the ER, I started

to fall down……long story short……I ended up using a walker and after seeing

two local neurologists, I went to The Neurological Institute of New York at

Columbia University.

The diagnosis is lumbar plexitis…..an inflammation of nerves in a nerve

“plexis” which I understand somewhat. In any case, I am now on permanent

disability. I went through physical therapy and progressed from the walker

to a cane and now, manage without the cane.

My one leg & foot are numb, but I have considerable pain. I am now terribly

concerned since my other foot is now numb. I’m scheduled for another MRI,

but there’s really nothing they can do.

I take 1800 mg of Neurontin a day (600 mg 3X) and have been through a series

of pain meds over the last few years. I also have rheumatoid arthritis

which is sometimes much worse than the neuropathy and take meds for that as

well.

I’ve never heard of a sweat test – how does that work?

Depression is a side effect of many illnesses…….I know that going from a

fully functioning woman to being disabled has been very trying for me. My

income has been cut dramatically so that in itself can cause a lot of

stress. The pain and limited abilities to do what we want to do is so

frustrating! I try to think about what I do have and not what I’ve lost. I

do miss working and interacting with friends on a daily basis, but I also do

love being home. Of course, I DO miss the income!!

Interestingly, my gynecologist prescribed an antidepressant, Effexor, for

hot flashes (yes, I suffer with that on top of everything else!) and I

suppose it helps lift my spirits as well. I am surprised that your doctor

has not prescribed something for you. I see nothing wrong with not getting

dressed for a few days, but if that becomes your lifestyle, then perhaps it

should be addressed more aggressively.

I’d love to compare notes and if you’d like to do so, I’d be glad to “chat”

off list. It’s so hard for people to understand neuropathy…..how can you be

numb and feel pain at the same time?? Sometimes, I don’t get it!!

Dorothy
