Guest guest
I always hear this pre-meal of 80, but mine is usually nearer90-95, but my two hour post meal is practically always around ten points around 90 plus or minus 10 points. Of course by trial and error and carb counting and adjusting the Humalog dose was I only able to do this. Guest guest
Yes, that is another option, but just being on insulin and no oral medications will do for sure. Guest guest
ya, pre meal should be 80 that is the goal. Not saying you will always get it but it certanly is possible. My pre meals are around 75 to 83 or so about 75% of the time. The other 25% I don't go over 95. Guest guest
Ok, well sometimes I'm on a Paratransit van two hours after I eat. What can I do about that? That's a problem I can't seem to get around. Can I take some glucose tabs with me and if I have a reaction take them until I can get home and take my blood sugar? Guest guest
I'm still rather confused. Would I take Humalog every time I ate something that had carbs in it? Or, would I just take it before mealtimes? Guest guest
Wow!, that is cutting things even closer than I am doing. With my A1C's being what they are presently, I will be content to stick around a pre-meal of 90, if I can. Guest guest
Yes, If you take a flight two hours after you eat, then you might have time to monitor your two hour post meal glucose level before boarding the plane. Yes, you should always have glucose tablets on your person at all times when you travel. So, if you should have a low sugar reaction, you could always pop a glucose tablet to counter it. Guest guest
No and yes. No, you do not have to take Humalog every time you consume carbs provided the number of grams of carbs you consume are very small. For instance a snack of 2 carbs probably would not require a Humalog shot. Yes, Humalog is dosed to cover the number of grams of carbs consumed at meals. Most meals have many carbs in them, not just one or two of them. If you have a large snack, say you eat an apple or eat a melon, which are forbidden fruits, as far as I am concerned, then you can dose Humalog to cover the carbs consumed. However, when using Humalog it is recommended to allow four hours to elapse between injections and never to inject Humalog a night before going to bed unless you have mastered carb counting and also mastered the knowledge with practice of how many units of Humalog will bring down your glucose level by so many pointsThis is something you will learn over time. For instance I am insulin resistant and 1 unit of Humalog lowers my glucose level by an average of about 8 points. It is wise to be conservative, since for the novice who is not insulin resistant, 1 unit of Humalog may bring down their glucose level by 50 points, but only trial and error will teach you. This is something you have to learn for yourself. I have mastered Humalog dosing, but I still do not inject Humalog before goingt to bed to sleep. If my bedtime glucose level is slightly higher than I wish, a few situps and pushups will drop the glucose level twenty or thirty points for me. Guest guest
I don't know if this is possible in your situation but I check my blood even while my wife is driving down the road. It is so simple for me to do. I carry my diabetic supplies in a plastic loaf of bread container. I.E a plastic box with a lid that holds 1 loaf of bread. I put the lid face up on my lap as a table top and the rest of my supplies in the box at my feet it works great. The lid face up is flat, like a table top, and holds the blood meter fine and I can do my thing with no problems. Guest guest
I am glad you asked the question, since our goal is to run normal blood sugars just like a non-diabetic. A non-diabetic, a normal person without diabetes, runs an A1C that ranges from 4.2 to 5.2. Guest guest
it really isn't that much at all. You dose humalog at meals, keep meals 4 hours apart, eat low carb snacks in between meals like meat, cheese, olives, pickles, salad, etc. things that are not quick acting carbs so your sugar will not spike. Keep asking questions, we are here to answer. Guest guest
Sharon your statement here is the beginning of wisdom. I love your openness. You are teachable and that is a big first step. I admire you from afar as I am not a diabetic, but do recognize healthy flexibility when I see it. Smile. Rita > it really isn't that much at all. Guest guest
Well good to know this Harry. I will run down my copy of lab results and look for a 1 c reading. When I think of how I wantonly took in loads of carbs! No matter what my future holds I never ever will eat carbs recklessly. Now my goal is to gain muscle strength and endurance and drop some fat. Thanks again. Guest guest
yes, always carry glucose tabs. I carry my blood glucose moniter wherever I go also so i can do a BS in whatever vehicle or place I am located. Re: Cy - low carb Ok, well sometimes I'm on a Paratransit van two hours after I eat. What can I do about that? That's a problem I can't seem to get around. Can I take some glucose tabs with me and if I have a reaction take them until I can get home and take my blood sugar? Guest guest
Good for you Rita! Re: Cy - low carb Well good to know this Harry. I will run down my copy of lab results and look for a 1 c reading. When I think of how I wantonly took in loads of carbs! No matter what my future holds I never ever will eat carbs recklessly. Now my goal is to gain muscle strength and endurance and drop some fat. Guest guest
I haven't started taking Humalog yet. I go see my doctor again on June 14th. We will be changing then. They want to give me what they want me to have as for example, 70/30 and I don't want that. I trust what you say more. Thanks. Guest guest
Thanks Rita. I love Marie's. Do you think the other dressings are as low in carbs?
