I do have Sjogren's. It's been pretty bad too. I was taking

Salagen for the dry mouth, but it didn't do a lot for me. I still

take it when the Sjogren's gets really bad. Problem is, though, I

work in surgery. Salagen makes me have to pee so dag-gone much that

I stopped taking it when I went back to work. Can't exactly leave

the patient asleep having surgery and tell the doctor he is on his

own while I go pee!!! :-) Plaquenal hasn't helped. I did find one

thing, however, that is helpful for the dry mouth for short periods

of time. It's a cany called " Aqua-Drops " . They now make them in

sugar-free. They have several different flavors. It's just a hard

candy that makes you salavate. They work well. I got a friend of

mine on them too because the chemotherapy she is on causes her mouth

to go dry. That's good that you are getting the ultrasound.

Hopefully everything will normal. Good luck with your appointment.

Keep me posted, ok!?!? Take care...Marina

> thanks, marina... i sure hope i can get another medication that

works.. my doctor has made an appointment for me to get an ultra

sound of my liver... maybe things will be good in liover land for

me, too... ha ha ha

> do you have sjogrens, also??? they say plaquinel if good for

that... has anyone lse had good luck with that???

Rae,

Make sure you start out slow. Don't over do it!!! No matter how good it

feels. As far as diet I follow high protein, plenty veggies and little carbs.

Portion control, at least 64 ozs of water a day. No sodas,3 meals a day and at

least two snacks. I use www.fitday.com to track my food intake. I make sure

I eat at least 60-80 grams of protein a day...any less I start craving junk

food and sweets.

I started with 5 mins of exercise a day and increased it daily until I got to

30 mins a day. I walk when I can but I mostly use sweatin' to the oldies and

my Tony little gazelle.

Couple of articles in the THES, but difficult to get a feel for the

implications for us. Its already being speculated that with metrics,

science based universities will gain and more humanities based,

lose. Its said that the R & D budget was combined to prevent it

being raided to make good the NHS deficit. Someone I spoke to

thought the SDO would stay independent.

Have other researchers picked up from the Chancellor's budget that the

research assessment exercise is to be scrapped and replaced by a formula

based on research (council) funding and publications? And that the NHS

research budget is to be combined with the MRC, to form a single health

research fund? A working group is being set up to explore the metrics

and modelling of how this would work so decisions can be made by October

this year; much casting of the runes and discussion to come! I am not

sure whether this would be overall postive or negative; guess it depends

on where you work and what funding you have at present. I missed it in

the first instance, then found a couple of short reports in Guardian and

Independent, but little mention elsewhere. Does anyone have

views/inside knowledge?
