Guest guest
Hi everyone. I too believe that Mirilax is unsafe for children. I have seen negative behavioral differences in my own 19 month old after I was advised by his pediatrician to take it for a month straight. Thankfully I did pick up on his immediate behavior change and discomfort and stopped after a few days. This prompted me to search google about Mirilax for more information. I found a website (thank you Dana's view) that led me to this group. Something new I am starting tomorrow is to stop giving my son any kind of vegetable oil and start a plant based (steamed veggies, etc.) detox program using organic coconut oil as needed. I need to get steamed onions and steamed cruciferous vegetables back into his diet (pureed of course). These are known liver detoxifiers and help kidney too. If the liver can better to it's job, I think it can also help the kidneys. My Ob/Gyn advised me to use Mirilax while pregnant. - Yes. And I did it. While pregnant, unfortunately and painfully passed a #2 the diameter of a baseball due to my constipation - and yes I drank tons of water and ate veggies but that is the way my bowels are when they the conditions are not right. Pregnancy was rather rough on me to say the least. That constipation issue I had was an awful experience and I needed help. For the most part, looking back, I did take Ducolax instead of Mirilax (per doc's advice) while pregnant although I don't know what Docalax might have done to me and my child either. Anyway, I have since found a wonderful product that works for my constipation issues that are basically now cured after many, many years of struggle with them. It has liver and other organ plant based detoxifiers and cascara sugrata in it. Cascara sugrata alone never really did all that much for me. But in combination with other things, it is great. So my worries are over but I wish I would have known about this stuff when I was pregnant. Some people also give this kind of stuff (variations of) to their children and impacted infants with great results and no long term ill side effects. To give you more background, (since birth) my son cannot consume milk or any cow dairy products. It is not a lactose allergy but some other milk protein. We are not sure but just know it is not lactose. It causes his digestive system to get gassy and stop moving. Mine can do similar things on dairy but it was not like that when I was a kid. Not sure what that is all about but oh well. Soy and coconut and almond milk work just fine for my son and for me as well and we don't miss the dairy except for cheese. My son has had rather extreme side effects from vaccinations as well as antibiotics. I am exploring other plant based alternatives so I don't ever have to give him antibiotics again. I also tried two different day cares including a montessori for at least a month recently. He was sick with colds more than he was well (I was paying others for me to take care of him) so I took him out of montessori and am now planning to stay home for the next few years instead of having others 'care' for him. After a nanny did not work out a few months after going back to work from maternity leave when he was a few months old, I had quit my job to stay home with him. Another two years is not that much of a sacrifice as far as I am concerned. I would like the recent round of antibiotics that I put him on to be the last. I can't recall the last time he was on antibiotics prior to this past month. Although I take him plenty of places and he even gets colds from time to time when I stay home with him, it is nothing compared to onslaught of germs he picks up at a day care. Anyway, it was the antibiotic this past month that killed all of his flora and stopped up his pooping that led to the doctor to tell us to use mirilax. I want to learn about what is working for others as far as detoxing mirilax from their child's body. I am not the kind to give up. I am a growing believer in the idea that the body can heal in wonderful ways and that nature provides all we need to help us heal if we just seek it out. I have already seen improvements in his behavior with the alternatives I have found and the natural detox plan I have him on so far. Before I found the information on line (thank you all) I was at my wits end trying to deal with him. He was difficult to be around. He has always been like that when he is very sick. Since he is not able to tell me what hurts, he just whines, yells, pulls at me and all of that. Oh and the refusal to sleep at night and getting up multiple times during the night is enough to almost kill a mother. Again, since starting to 'clean him up,' his behavior and attitude about the way he feels is improving by leaps and bounds. He is laughing again and trying to learn new words again and all of that. When he is not well, he stops trying to learn things. Part of what I am doing that seems to work is giving him oranges to eat with at least two meals a day. It is interesting to me because he is even craving them. I am not using anything specifically to help him move his bowels right now and I can even see some of the tiny pieces of orange in his poop when I change him (soft, easy to pass, wet-ish poop that arrives at the least once a day). So, I am here to exchange ideas. I believe every one of you when you say that your children have had issues after giving them Mirilax. I now think Mirilax is poison and wish I never would have taken it while pregnant (or ever for that matter) and most importantly wish I never would have given it to my son. I am also mixing 100% cranberry juice (few ounces since it is kind of bitter) and fresh squeezed organic lemon with his regular juice (1/2 water). 100% cranberry juice is amazing for the kidney. He says 'mmm, mmm' when there is lemon juice in it which I find interesting. Again, he might be craving it since he likes it so much so he must need it. We are also integrating probiotics (Culturelle and soy yogurt). I welcome any ideas for detoxification. I am looking for informational exchange about cleaning up the body after being exposed to Mirilax (which I now believe to be poison).
