RE: Vulval Vestibulitis

Hi there,

After a week ago that I was diagnosed with Vaginitis, from an allergy to

yeast, and given a fungal cream to fix it in 7 days, I thought 'that can't

be that easy!!'. So 8 days later my wonderful and understanding new

boyfriend found a Hospital in London that has heard of VV!! So I went this

morning and told them I believe I have Vulval Vestibulitis given my

symptoms, and no vaginitis as the doctor at a Well Woman clinic indicated,

since the cream didn't even burn when applied and the pain is still the

same!

After explaining my history and the fact that I've never been able to have

penetration the doctor asked me if I bleed after sex, 'What sex? I asked

him, and then he decided to explore me. Then he called in another doctor for

a second opinion (a lady one) who said to me: your diagnosed is correct, you

do have Vulval Vestibulitis. She also said I have one of the healthiest

vaginas they've ever seen. Well, it hasn't had much activity, has it!!!

Despite I knew I had VV, on the back of my mind I thought they would tell me

it was just a skin infection or something simple to fix. However, all they

could tell me is that there isn't much there that can be done, at least not

in the near future.

I've been referred to a Vulval Clinic, with quite a long waiting list, since

there are more women with Vulval pain than doctors who can treat us.

They've given me a cream for dry skin which I have to wear ALL the time

despite is not going to make the pain go away (a bit pointless then, don't

you think?) and a local anaesthetic cream to easy the pain when putting

tampons in (I was more thinking of my boyfriend at the time than a tampon,

but I felt a bit embarrassed about asking about that possibility.... What do

you expect at 29, virgin, and with a gorgeous boyfriend!!). I've also being

referred to a psychologist, since I burst into tears when they agreed with

my diagnosed. But after so many years of coping with it on my own and being

surrounded by doctors that agreed with me that it wasn't a mental problem

but very physical, and suffered by many other women, they agreed I needed

someone to talk about it face to face and come to terms with it, instead of

keeping it to myself like I have for the last 17 years.

So... I was wondering if any of you ladies have tried the local anaesthetic

cream and what are the effects. Can you really cope with penetration?

luck with doctors, try the Sexual Health Clinic at St Bart's Hospital in

East London. No need for appointment, just walk in!!! If you need more
