Guest guest
I think if say my left wrist was ALWAYS bad, maybe I would adjust faster and accomodate faster to not having the use of it, maybe by using my other hand better? But today it is my left writst, tomorrow it is my right wrist, the next day it is my fingers on this hand, the next day my shoulder flares- it is not the same joint, it changes day to day. Then next week it is a knee and my hands and fingers and wrists are OK. Then it is a foot, and then a hip, and then a shoulder. How do I learn to adapt to such changes? I have splints and braces for ankles, knees, wrists, and I have a cane, crutches and a walker and also an electric scooter. SOme days I can use a cane, some days I walk just fine unassisted, some days my wrists will not let me use a cane or crutches r the walker, and some days I HAVE to use the scooter. Then I show up at my scout troop with a splint or a cane and everyone wants to know what did I do, and they are looking for some entertaining tale of some silly mishap that caused me to be injured. Ya know? Or today people see me with a splint on my left wrist and tomorrow that splnt is gone and the next day I have one on my right wrist and people seem to think maybe I am making it all up, gee why is your splint on the other hand today> 2 days ago it was on the other hand, are you pulling our leg here? If I could NEVER use my left hand, I would become adept using my right for everything, I am sure I would. But I blink and then it is the other hand that I cannot use. How do you adapt to that? It is so....ummmmmm... inconsistant, and it confuses me and it REALLY confuses the people around me. Today I can comb my own hair but yesterday I couldn't. Noone ever knows hour to hour if I will be OK to do things for myself or not, not even me. It gets hard and it does keep the anger and frustration bubbling even after having the illness a few years. - In , " CINDI " <heinscsf@y...> wrote: > > DEAR DREAMER, > > THAT POST THAT YOU JUST WROTE, COULD HAVE BEEN WRITTEN BY ME ! > > WE ALL HAVE HAD TO ADAPT AND EACH ONE IS A SHOCKER AND A MORALE > > LET DOWN, AND ANOTHER FEAR ADDED TO OUR LIST, LIKE, WHAT > > HAPPENS IF I CAN NOT LONGER DO ANYTHING MYSELF ? > > CINDI
