Our group is averaging much better than even the DCCT or the UKPDS claimed we were capable of, without frequent dangerous hypos! (That is because they never addressed lowering carbohydrate intake as a method of improving control.) They thought that 7.0 was as *low* as we dared try to go. They even told diabetics and doctors that readings below 8.0 were pretty decent, with the result that I have a sister who is approaching 8, even on lots of meds, and thinking she is doing really okay. (She doesn't want to change her diet.) Our group is doing really great! Susie
Guest guest
gluco protein this morning was 233 (5.55), Barb, How did you caluculate the 5.55 from the gluco protein? I got the InCharge meter, but I didn't see where they said anything about converting their numbers to an HbA1c. nn Type 2, Dx Oct 98, Avandia, Glucophage, Lopid, Prinivil, MDI H & NPH

The changes in my dosing are really tiny -- we've found that I'm so insulin-sensitive that 1/4 of a unit suffices in some cases. This is very tricky --even using the smallest syringes. I've ordered dilution kits from Lilly but it's going to probably be a month or so before it arrives so meanwhile I'm " eyeballing " -- not the most accurate way to do things. We're doing all kinds of interesting food isolation tests -- next week I get to have an " ice cream meal " -- one serving of ice cream, one unit of insulin then nothing else for 6-1/2 hours (that's how long we found it takes my body to complete H!) then checking BG. I have to be careful not to lose weight because all calculations are based on one weight and if I deviate more than a pound or so from it, it throws everything off. I lost almost six pounds initially (because of fasting meals) before we discovered this. I know, I know, lots of you would give an eyetooth to have my problem -- but it IS a problem! I'm trying to stay at 124 now. But I haven't had a hypo in three weeks. So this is good. Back to lurking. Vicki
