Guest guest
That's great news! I bet he's still soaking in the bathtub....lol. Be sure to have him push the liquids (especially water) to keep everything working well. Mick Ann Meili wrote: . Hubby had the catheter out today and so far has total bladder control. Guest guest
Good news, that! How long did he have his catheter in? Did he experience any spasms or sense of urgency while the catheter was in? What medications is he on now? Did his doctor suggest he start taking Viagra, or anything else, soon after surgery, as a way to enhance his post surgical erectile functioning? Guest guest
Hi to everybody on the list. Here is my unforntunate story. In 2000, at age 43, I felt a sharp pain in my uretra. Saw a uro and he told me I had a urinary infection. He gave me some antibiotics and it cleared up. In 2001, I was not well but this time I was only feeling some sort irritationin in my uretra and blader. The uro told me I needed a cistoscopy and he perfomed it. I felt great. My uro never suggested a Psa or any other test. I didn´t know about this test until January 2005, when I was diagnosed with Pca. Till then my life was ok, but started feeling some disconfort in the lower back and was feeling very tired in the evenings. I could do some exercises but still would not feel better. I used to play tenis with my friends but, by August 2004, I started loosing interest as I was feeling more and more tired. Every MD I saw from my uro to othedr physicians, they kept on telling me that I had a very stressfull life as I´m lawyer and my working days were usually very busy. In January 2005 I went on holidays in South Africa, and decided to have a full chek up. It is when my Pca was discovered. My PSA at dignosis was 31.19, Gleason score 7. I was in the state of schock for three weeks and could not believe what was happening to me. I wanted to sue my uro of 5 or 6 years for his lack of professionalism. He told me he never suspected of Pca because of my age (48) and the fact that I had no symptoms. One month after diagnosis and after changing my diet, my PSA came down to 23. I wanted to follow the active surveillance approach after reading some material on the internet but the who did the diagnosis in SA was urging me to have RP. I saw 3 other uros and they all told told me the same. In March 2005, I saw another uro and an Onco, who told me to get rid of it as soon as possible but this time they proposed Radiation. My Psa was now 25. On 30 March I had a shot of zoladex an on April 18, I started radition. After 44 sessions of rad my Pas came down to 0,31 (June 2005). 15 days later it was 0,13. End July, it came down to 0,04. I had 3 more shots of zoladex and had the last one last January. My Psa is still around 0.07 (May 28). I have ED from the second shot but fully continent. My problem now is that I started (3 months now) feeling pain in the prostate and the tissues around it. I´m having problems with my liver (the liver enzymes - AST, ALT and Alk. phosph. are slightly high). I´ve gained about 10 kg. I´ve pain in my joints. Triglycerides are elevated. The CK is also very high and one MD told me I could have a muscle problem, inter alia. I´m getting worried. Would this mean recurrance, spread or something else? Could it be from hormone therapy or from radiation? I had my follow up check in May and had bone scans and a CT scan to the liver, blader, stomach and chest and everything seemed ok. Any clue. Please help me? Nosla. Malecare@... wrote: Good news, that! How long did he have his catheter in? Did he experience any spasms or sense of urgency while the catheter was in? Guest guest
Catheter was in for 6 days, So spasms or sence of urgency with the catheter. He is on an antibiotic and vicodin...nothing else. No cancer support group, I did not ask him about Viagra, too soon to think about that. I will feel better when he comes home. Just so folks know, American Airlines offers FREE air travel to and from cancer treatment. Also, Corporate Angel Network offers free seats on corporate flights if there is room. You have to be traveling between your home and a major cancer center like MD , Mayo etc. Usually takes 2 - 3 weeks with all the documentation that American Airlines requires. If I can find a link or more informaiton I will post it. So for those of you who say they cannot get to a major cancer center...now you can. AnnMalecare@... wrote: Good news, that! Guest guest
Hi Ann: Thanks for replying. I just wanted to followup, as your reply actually brings up a few more questions; the answers to which I think will be enlightening to many of us. First, you wrote that his catheter was in for six days, and that you will feel better when he comes home. Does that mean to indicate that he is/was in hospital for six or more days? (if not, how long was he in hospital). Also, are you saying that he is still taking Vicodin for pain, six days or more after surgery? I can understand that you, yourself, are not ready to ask him about Viagra. Is that to say that his doctor did not discuss post surgical use of Viagra or similar drugs as a theraputic attempt to enhance the possiblity of satisfactory erectile functioning down the road? Thanks again for participating in this online support group. I hope that, along with your encouragement of others, that you have indeed found support for yourself from all of us. Cheers, Darryl > Ann Meili wrote: > Catheter was in for 6 days, So spasms > or sence of urgency with the catheter. He is on an > antibiotic and vicodin...nothing else. Guest guest
Ok, let try to clear this up. My husband had robotic surgery at Memorial Herman Hospital/MD Cancer Center in Houston. We live in Florida. He was in the hospital for 2 nights. After his discharge he stayed at the Marriott that is affilliated with the hospital complex. He is flying back to Florida on Saturday, coming home! As far as Viagra, the doctor spoke to him about it during the initial consultation but suggested he not take it until after the 6 week check up. After the 6 week check up he can start getting his FAA Medical Certificate back and hopefully get back to work in September.darrylmit@... wrote: Hi Ann: Thanks for replying.
