Guest guest
Hi Jim,I checked this link and it sounded like permethrin could be handled carefully to repel and kill tick with clothing. Then I followed the 'See also' link at the bottom to pyrethrin, the one I knew came from chrysanthemums, and at the bottom of their toxicity section, they weighed in on permethrin pretty negatively.(more so than the permethrin article had). Hmmmm.I'm definitely going to experiment with care. What they said definitely negates any hopes that this spray would be helpful on children's clothing. sigh.Be well,LénaHi Tom,As far as chemicals used for killing pests, permetherin is pretty safe... I even thought it was natural, but now I am reading it is synthetic... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PermethrinTHE BIG WARNING is don't use it on cats, it will kill them quickly... but for other animals, including humans it is okay..http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Permethrin>>>It is not known to rapidly harm most mammals or birds, but is dangerously toxic to cats[<<<By spraying it on clothing, it will kill ticks quickly...>>>Permethrin kills ticks on contact with treated clothing.<<<<4 Poster deep feeding stations are laced with permetherin, when the deer pokes its head through the feeding hole where the permetherin is laced, it can kill up to 40% of ticks on a single deer!! We don't need to kill deer to lower tick populations, we just need to place more 4 Poster deer feeding stations... http://www.aldf.com/fourPoster2.shtmlTake care,Jim> > > Hi everyone,> > Tomorrow (Friday) I start my first daily dose for this fatigue study I was > selected > to participate in.... Guest guest
Hi Jim,Thanks for this link! I always spray outdoors, upwind and wearing a good filter mask. (remember: we were prototypers for years and did lots of spraying; got good at protecting ourselves) Be well,LénaHi Lena,Check out this link, it is all about permethrin and clothing... http://fhp.osd.mil/factsheetDetail.jsp?fact=27Talks about clothing with factory sprayed permethrin is better and also safer as there is no chance of breathing in the spray when you do it yourself...Once dried, it appears safe and does protect against disease, something we always have to consider when using chemicals... I know I would take some risk to avoid another tick bite.... But I would be concerned about the airborne particles from spraying it myself... Unless a chemical mask was used...Somewhere in time I got a tick bite, always played in the woods as a kid and when older... Today I would not hesitate to use clothing to protect against a tick bite, had I only known back then... :-(Jim> >> >> > Hi everyone,> >> > Tomorrow (Friday) I start my first daily dose for this fatigue > study I was> > selectedÂ> > to participate in....
