Guest guest
It is interesting to me that more than one of our group has been directed toward seeing a psychiatrist. Does this fall into the diagnosis category of " It's all in your head? " Sharon
Guest guest
, How about getting off of all of the awful drugs and just have the maze procedure done. In your case it sounds like the best option. Bob R. Pain in the heart area ? am I going nuts All I have some observations and I wonder if the board can give me some support. Firstly am I going nuts..... I have been taking Dofetilide from September 2000... From the preceding 18 months I had been in Chronic AF and having a pretty awful time of it.. I must point out that I do suffer with Asthma but this has not caused me any problems in fact on that front all has been idle. that is before now.. Due to Amiodarone I had my Thyroid removed and when I was put on Thyroxin I noticed that the drug is was taking Verapail of Diltiazam became very potent. I found that when taking Verapamil I go very itchy in the lungs and found it almost impossible to breath, I started taking Inhaled steroids and a antihistamine. With DiItiazam I broke out in a face rash and this would cover my body after two weeks. All was well before I took the Thyroxin with this above mentioned drugs. As I was going on Dofetilide the Dr and I came to an agreement that I could take Verapamil and four days diltiazm four days. This kept me going for a few months. I started Dofetilide in September on a unusual high dose. 750mcg x2 pre day. I went into PAF. This is where it gets strange. I have found that my AF is now in a cycle. I am ok from Monday to Friday or Saturday then what ever I do I go into AF for 24hrs. It always reverts (thank God) after the 24 hrs and nearly always during or after a small walk. Just before I go into AF I found that I become very agitated and uneasy, I cannot sit still and start picking from the Fridge. More strange When In SR I become alert and bright but my Asthma start to affect me after the first day in SR this increasingly gets more difficult to control then when I POP in AF it disappears in an instant. When In AF I for the first hour I become very peaceful and relaxed but then after 12 hours my left arm becomes tight and my chest also becomes tight and I get very short of breath. I now get chest pains but this now feels more like a ligament pain in the ribs. I can tell an instant that I am either in AF or SR. One last odd thing when on the large dose of Dofetilde, I get all of the above but more intense but I became more Euphoric. I found I started talking to strangers and biting my nails and in a permanent state of Buzzing. I did mention this to my Dr and he agreed this could be the Dofetilide and in the next breath he suggested that I should see a psychiatrist.. I am now on the normal does 0f 500 mg x 2 pre day and the mood patterns are back to normal. Its all strange to me any body have any idea or am I going nuts... One last thing I am sure that at one of my many consultations with the Medical fraternity, I was informed that when in AF your body secretes a Hormone that tries to regulate your body to this strange rhythm. Any ideas and support would be great. Just as a tidbit to others taking it, I became convinced that it contributed to the shortness of breath I have been trying to deal with, and both my internist and the second one I went to said not possible, but the cardiologist says yes. On the other hand, the cardiologist says my hand pain that went away 1-2 days after I dropped my toprol dose couldn't possibly be a toprol side effect, but in the warnings section, there it is. Modern medicine still has a way to go, docs are not totally informed, and I think they too easily fall back on stuff like the above.
Guest guest
, my thoughts are with you, it sounds like you are having a very trying time. I will second someone else's opinion about trying to reduce meds as much as possible. I am still trying to figure out what to do about Toprol, with very conflicting opinions from docs, but I feel better (I never thought I would say this) off Ativan because it was making my shortness of breath worse. I am deeply suspicious about side effects, esp. when more than one med is taken and can interact. It is interesting that your asthma disappears in an instant when popping into afib. My shortness of breath disappears in an instant when I pop into sinus, then gets back to where it is slightly bothersome when I am at rest and very bothersome on exertion/afib.
