Guest guest
Hi all, I had my appt with the ortho guy (can't pronounce or spell his name) and he has agreed to do a total knee replacement. The next step is to meet with the anesthetist after I get the final report from Fr. Fehlings tomorrow. Just when I was getting excited at the prospect of less pain and the ability to walk again, he threw a curve at me. Because my knee is bent at a 40 deg angle, he has to straighten the leg before he proceeds with the phony knee, there is a bit of a problem. He claims there is a high risk of stretching the nerve on the lateral part of my knee and should this happen, I would lose the use of that foot. When I asked him how big a risk, he said the risk is very high.. However, I can't walk now and no doubt my knee will become more bent in the future, I think I have to take the risk no matter how high the risk. I told him this really pissed me off (yes I did say this) because I have been trying for over a year to get a knee replacement and at the time my leg was not bent. Will keep you posted when I hear more. Before I said the bad word, he mentioned a wait of 6 mos. As I was leaving he said about 3. We will see.
