Guest guest
Gaby, I had methotrexate induced lung problems called drug induced pneumonitis. It started with a dry hacking cough. I woulod cough for no reason and never be able to bring anything up. The coughing got so bad that I could barely talk. I was never short of breath or dizzy with it. It was just annoying and embarassing because I could not get a whole sentence out without going into a coughing fit. My chest got sore and hurt and my lung hurt! My doc stopped the MTX immediately and within two weeks the cough was completely gone. Don't wait to see your rheummy on this. If left untreated or unchecked can result in permenent lung damage or even death from respiratory failure. There was an article about a year ago of an older man that died from drug induced pneumonitis from MTX use. I would try to get in as soon as possible to see your rheummy or at least called and get an OK to lower or stop the dosage until you can get in to see him. By the way I was talking the oral pills at that time. After I stopped I restarted about two months later with the injections. Never had anymore lung problems while on injections but had every other side effect that made me eventually stop the MTX. I will never take MTX ever again. My rheummy finally gave up on me and MTX. Guest guest
Gaby, you went to the doctor, and he put you on antibiotics, but didn't take you off the MTX? You should see the doc that put you on the MTX, he should know what's going on. My opinion, you should go off the MTX, if your having problems that long. Guest guest
Rae, I am not on any meds right now. I chose to come off all meds. They were not doing much good. In reality they were doing more harm in terms of side effects than they were doing good. I made some major lifestyle changes(lost weight, better diet and exercise) which have made more of a diference than anything else. Guest guest
Hi, I have not posted for a long time and I hope it is okay if I just reply to your question. f you want you can post the answer but it is hard enough for me now to write back. I am 4o and have been dx with RA for 5 years now. I have been on MTX for at least 3 years -the pill form. Just last week I was dx with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease or COPD and my chest x-ray came back abnormal with multiple nodules on my left lung. I am due for a CT Scan of my chest on Monday and a sonogram of the cartiroid artery, the kidneys, liver, and oneor two more I can't remember. My blood levels were high for liver enzymes and I have had edema all throughout my body for about two weeks which is a sign of lung or heart problems. There is rheumatoid lung disease and there is also damage from MTX, you are can of dammed if you do and dammed if you don't I am sorry you are going through all of this. I will let you know what I find out. Jacquie
