Guest guest
Hi Marita Keep the ace wrap on all the time. You can change it to wash your foot etc. and to readjust it several times through the course of the day. Keep it elevated as much as possible. Do not put any weight on it at all. Don't walk on the side of it either. You're more likely to cause an ankle injury, strain or tear tendons, or fall. You can swtich to heat now that it has been several days since you hurt it. You can soak your foot in warm water with Epsom salts, and or use a heating pad on low. Don't apply ice or heat for more than 20 minutes at a time when you have an injury. Don't go to sleep with a heating pad on, nor an ice pack. You risk burning yourself. I hope you are better soon. It's hard moving to a new place and finding a physician. Kaylene Moderator I've been putting an ice pack on it for as long as I can stand it when I go to bed and wrap it with an ace bandage so it doesn't fall off. I've been walking putting weight on the outside of my foot only, which is not that great, either, because now that part is getting sore. If it's not getting better very soon I will have to go see a doctor for sure. --------------------------------- Yahoo! Photos Ring in the New Year with Photo Calendars. Guest guest
Hi Marita It's okay to put an ice pack on it. Ice for the first 24 hours after an injury is the general rule. If the ice feels better than heat, then use ice. Remember not to put the ice directly on your skin, so you won't give yourself frostbite. It's probably swelling because you are trying to walk on it, or keep it down too much. Kaylene Moderator and RN I thought that you were supposed to use ice until the swelling is down? It's still swollen and that's why I was still using an ice pack. Thank you for all the suggestions, Kaylene, I really appreciate it. That's good to know, first 24 hours ice, then heat. >> It's probably swelling because you are trying to walk on it, or keep it down too much.<< That would explain it. Okay, I will go lay on the couch now with my foot up. Thanks again for your advice. Marita in Montana
