June,....sometimes you have to make choices in life, that you think

are best for you. I'm with you on this one, I would probably go

ahead with the surgery too. Too bad, they couldn't have got off

their butt before the leg got like that. I can understand how

irritated you are with them. You keep us posted, I'm sorry that it

wasn't better news, hugs Tawny

name) and he has agreed to do a total knee replacement. The next step

is to meet with the anesthetist after I get the final report from Fr.

Fehlings tomorrow. Just when I was getting excited at the prospect of

less pain and the ability to walk again, he threw a curve at me.

Because my knee is bent at a 40 deg angle, he has to straighten the

leg before he proceeds with the phony knee, there is a bit of a

problem. He claims there is a high risk of stretching the nerve on

the lateral part of my knee and should this happen, I would lose the

use of that foot. When I asked him how big a risk, he said the risk

is very high.. However, I can't walk now and no doubt my knee will

become more bent in the future, I think I have to take the risk no

matter how high the risk. I told him this really pissed me off (yes

I did say this) because I have been trying for over a year to get a

knee replacement and at the time my leg was not bent.

> Will keep you posted when I hear more. Before I said the bad word,

he mentioned a wait of 6 mos. As I was leaving he said about 3. We

will see.

Hi June,

Sorry to hear about the delay in your knee replacement. You'd think

there was some way that these doctors could avoid over-scheduling

themselves to the point that patients have to wait so long,

especially when that wait causes more problems as you have

experienced. But let us delay sending them their money...well, you

know what happens!

I do hope they will be able to speed things up for you.

Peace,

Judi

June,

I'm sorry it took so long to get the approval for your new knee. I'll

be praying that the stretching won't damage the nerve and your

replacement will be a success.

I'm sorry for the challenges you are facing with your knee......and

angered with you that the wait for your knee has caused such high

risk for your foot. Is the doctor talking about " foot drop " or what?

Is there a chance that if you do lose use of your foot, it could be

helped by some sort of brace?

I pray everything will go well. Someone has to be in the " good group "

that doesn't get damaged, even when ther is " high risk " .........let's

pray you are one that avoids the damage.

Hopefully your new knee will come with little additional wait, and I

pray it will be a huge success.

I'm sorry I've missed if you will be able to go to rehab following

the surgery for TKR. Rehab with follow-up PT is a long, slow process

but well worth all of the work. My mom is 82 and had a TKR last

summer. She said she is a new woman with her new knee and has done

very well. I pray you, too, will do very well.

Hugs and prayers,

Elaine
