Guest guest
I was only recently referred to a rheumatologist , I will see him on the 26th of January. I have been reading on this list that elevated liver enzymes can preclude a person from taking some of the meds needed for RA. I have been having an elevated AST..it originally was 279, coming down now at 48,( normal is in the 20's) , slightly elevated Billirubin, and low Albumin. Does this mean I may not be able to take Methotrexate and other drugs used for RA? I see my surgeon today for follow up for my gastric bypass, I am going to ask him his view on my elevated enzymes. Thanks in advance, Faith
Guest guest
part of that will depend on the reason for the elevation. excessive weight will cause " fatty " infiltrates which in turn will cause elevated enzymes. diabetes can cause it. medication can cause it. there are so many other causes as well. my rheumy told me that he was looking for stability. mine haven't gotten too out of control so he is happy with where they are as long as we continue to get liver biopies every 1-2 years. the other part also depends on the doctor. it would be a good itdea to ask your surgeon. he could give you a better idea.....Marina/Ohio > I was only recently referred to a rheumatologist , I will see him on the 26th of January.
