Dear martha:

I kept telling my nsgs last fall that my head was going to fall off and that

my neck couldn't support it. What you're saying kind of makes sense to me.

It made sense to my nsg also. My head felt like that whether I was walking

or doing anything other than lying down.

Anyway, there it is. and by the way, my family has always thought I was

stupid. - ha.

Been there done that,

Hi Martha,

This bobbling thing-- it makes sense and I do know what you mean--a heavy

feeling head and goofed up muscles in the neck that don't support it

normally--a floating feeling with pressure (right? or no?) I suppose your

balance is kind of goofed up too? Tripping up stairs now and then? Almost

tipping over for no reason?

Yes, and falling off the front porch and back porch at different times.

Hi Everybody,

How are you?

I would have to say that this is just plain wrong.

Of course you don't have to have a Family History of

it to have it yourself. I wonder where some Health

Professionals come up with some of the things they

say!?!

Take Care,

My fathers nerurologist claims I cannot have Chiari since I have no family

history.  Is she wrong?

Hi, My numbers have shot up to 160-185 range for the past few days. Does a

woman's monthly cycle affect this? Or even headaches? I have had a major one

for 2-3 days. I am not eating anything I shouldn't be. I even started mall

walking yesterday, 2 miles yesterday and today. I really expected my numbers

to go down but they aren't. I sure am confused!!! Help!!! Jan

When you all were first diagnosed, did you have more bad days than

good? I'm sure it's different for each person. I went from feeling

bad yesterday to being very sick and in the hospital last night.

Today I felt better but now I'm feeling bad again (not as bad as last

night). I didn't think I should feel bad that often. I am going to

look for a new Dr tomorrow as my PCP won't treat my diabetes. He led

me to believe it was no big deal. I hope a new Dr will be able to

help me with this. I hate feeling so out of control.

Regardless of the doctor you choose, the most important thing is to

have faith, trust and confidence in them. You are going to be seeing

them often, probably every three months for awhile. I just see my

family doctor and I am really satisfied with her. She is very sweet,

understanding, all the qualities I look for in a doctor.

I think everyone has bad days. I know I do. Sometimes it is so hard

to get on the treadmill after I've eaten more carbs than I should,

but I make myself do it. Again, Beth, dealing with diabetes will get

easier.

Keep asking all the questions you want to. As you ask questions, we

are also learning.

---Hi Carol

Unfortunately I have found that there is a lot of stuff I can't

tolerate!! Pasta, bread, orange juice and forget all cakes and

candy. No matter how low my Bg is before eating any of the above

guaranted it will be in excess of 200-300 in no time flat. Not worth

it. So I have learned to compensate thanks to the list!!

Hi group!

Do any of you use a cream (i.e Bengay) to help with muscle cramps or spasms? I cannot always be taking the muscle relaxers, otherwise I will sounds a sleep on my desk at work!

Thanks so much.

Love to all,

Hi :

Most MSers have to be careful with Bengay or stuff like that. Sometimes the heat it gives the muscles is enough to cause us some problems. Remember MSers are affected by hot showers, etc? Other times the nerve issues we already have will escalate wildly by using Bengay. I have successfully used a product called Sombra. It's a natural product made in New Mexico. The physical therapist I went to used it and sold it in his office.

So you are having muscle cramps then? Muscle relaxers aren't always the best thing for MS-Muscle Cramps. With MSers what they are experiencing is usually muscle spasms and spasticity. Do you take Neurontin or Baclofen? There's another popular one and I can't think of the name of it right now.

I agree 100% Sharon. After I had Chloe and was complaining to the doctor about the pain in my legs and back, he prescribed Flexaril (cyclobenzaprine) Number 1 it did nothing for the pain but knocked me out enough so that I didn't feel anything. After MS, I was diagnosed with muscle spasms and was given Baclofen. At one point I was up to 4 10mg pills a day. Now I only take 2 and that seems to do the trick. I feel alot more limber, the muscles don't seem as tight or stiff, and I can walk with little difficulty most days.

Is the other medication you are talking Gabadril(sp)? My father was taken of Neurontin and put on Gabadril for his sever almost convulsion like spasms with very good effect.

Hi Bill, Thanks for your insight. I have had trouble with the heat for the last several years, but honestly I think it is related more to having gone through menopause (sorry for being so open) but that is no longer an issue and I don't seem to be having as much trouble. My Dad however started having a cluster type of migraine in his 40's due to being out in the heat and to this day he cannot take heat even though the migraines are no longer an issue for him. I'm pretty sure it is from his mother that I have inherited RA and OA. Doesn't matter - I loved that woman dearly!

Your pictures are great - looks like you and your family love doing things together.

Hi heat is a real big enemy to MS I have had double vision now since this past August and I know it was from my being out too long on a few too warm day's we had here in Indiana. I have had 2 steroid treatments and my eye's are a lot better but not back to normal. The heat may have caused you trouble running. Next summer I will limit myself being in the sun too long.

We also took a trip to Florida in April of 2003 and I stayed in the sun too long watching the walt disney parade they have everyday and the sun was so hard on me I couldn't get out of a wheelchair for about 6 weeks. I was glad it went away.

here is a photo of me with my family.
