Guest guest
Ya know, I've actually been thinking the same thing. Like you say, the drug companies will fight for all they are worth to not love those $$$. And lets say they do in the fore-seeable future, their are so many other alternatives out there. Even if you have some allergies, their are always work arounds. The drug companies have seen to that. I don't think we need to start worrying for several more years. Guest guest
Donnie, Tylenol (or APAP, it's abbreviation) is available over the counter, by itself, in combination with other products (like cold meds, etc.) and combined with prescription drugs (usually potent drugs, to reduce the abuse potential). They have ALWAYS known that it is toxic to the liver. Apparently, all of a sudden, it is more toxic than we have believed all these years! Also problems arise when people take multiple drugs (RX & OTC) and don't read the labels, thus duplicating the dosage of APAP or decide to exceed the recommended dosage. Short of taking it off the market completely, I don't know how they can prevent it completely. Meanwhile they sure are making it rough on everyone else. Sounds like you have a plan to make some positive changes in your life. Good for you! Take care and let me know how you are doing. Hugs, Alanna Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry (unknown) To: Hugs-N-Pain@ yahoogroups. com Date: Thursday, July 9, 2009, 8:46 PM Hi! Unfortunately for me,I am allergic to soo many things we tried.I now take OPANA ER 20mg x2 a day,and Hydromorphone 4mg x5 a day as needed.I can up it if needed.I ended up in ER taking Oxy,am allergic to codiene, tried a few that others are on,but what I take now works. For sleep I take Restoril 15mg...I dont think these politicians- drug " experts " realize what works for some, might kill others..grrr! Dottie Thanks for this, Dottie. One of the meds is what I take. But my pain doctor has more than that in his arsenal, I'm sure. I do, however, feel sorry for those individuals that don't have other options. I guess I just can't imagine that there aren't other options. Guest guest
Alanna, I've been looking for it. I may have to ask the person if they will re-post it. $231 to send records? What are they gold? My internist charges like $12 to fill out certain SS forms & stuff like that but that's a lot of money. Oh speaking of outrageous, I was supposed to have a dreaded colonoscopy this Wed. Well, I'm at a relatives house out of town dog-sitting & called them Monday to cancel. They said b/c I didn't call them within 72 hours, they are gonna' charge me $100.00. Like they are gonna get it. With what these doctors make!!! Actually, I've been ok 'cept the fibro flared in my ribcage. Lasted for about 4 days. But is all over now. I haven't had a fibro flare since I've been on Lyrica. But I gotta say, with all these meds, I fall asleep at the drop of a hat. Can't even read a book without nodding off I'm hoping my internist & my pain doc can figure out a different med regime. How are you? Nae > > > Nae, > Thank you. I'd be very interested to read that article. As far as my appeal > goes, my attorney is still trying to gather all of my medical records. Guest guest
The FDA may be making the final decision, but the drug companies have lobbiests that make sure the drug companies are well heard in the FDA. Trust me, the drug companies are going to do whatever it takes to protect their assets...and the FDA may not listen to us individuals, but they WILL listen to the drug companies and their lobbiests...money talks, and the drug companies have a LOT of money. The FDA doesn't just look into what is " best " for the people, they also are individuals who listen to the lobbiests to tell them , Come on..you don't wanna do this..it will hurt everyone in the long run..here, have a $500,000 vacation in Hawaii...there, don't you feel better? LMAO.. It may not be that overt, but they DO take the lobbiests position into consideration and receive some sort of kick backs... Guest guest
You are right . But like Dottie (?) said, the drug companies will lobby for all their worth to stop this from happening. There will be all sorts of work-arounds on it just as there is on any other law we are told to live by. Guest guest
LOL... " No drug for stupid " . My doc and I were talking about the law makers in that vein.   The law makers were the stupid and the people who do stupid things. Most folks tend to lazy and don't read the labels.   The law makers still need a drug for stupid. My doc said the same thing I did...us folks who take vicodan or the like are getting them from doctors...and are in a position of being taught about the tylenol and those drugs don't need the attention. If they want to lower the dose of tylenol...fine...just don't get rid of it.  And fight for the right to keep long acting " contin " type of drugs. They are safer then any around. And....they do not contain tylenol.   They need to work on an idea for the OTC drugs with tylenol. That's where the mess is. I'm still for color coding and teaching. If it's color coded with red..dont' take red with red. People don't read labels that much but color is immediate attention.. Guest guest
Donnie, I'm glad you're working things out! You sound so much better. As far as your meds go, it's best to tell your doctor what's going on and let him decide. I use a fentanyl patch, Avinza (which is morphine ER) and oxycodone IR. That works most of the time. Maybe he could up your oxycontin and use something else for breakthrough pain - like morphine. My doctor gave me a script for a new drug - Nulesta, I think. It's a rescue drug for really bad days. The pharmacy didn't even have it. When I get it I'll let you know. You can buy a card from your cell phone company to plug into your laptop and have internet anywhere. It's a little pricey, but better than doing w/o. Is your wife upset that you're leaving? I don't know what my husband would do if I tried to leave. Things are pretty much the same around here. No matter what I say or do, it's wrong. I'm glad you're OK and have so many girlfriends! I hope your pain gets better - make sure you tell your doctor it's getting worse. Have a restful night. Guest guest
I am seeing my family doc he is trying to find the right med he won't up the morphine I think he needs to change me to something else other than the morphine. I can't take this pain any longer I don't know how much more I can stand!!!!!!!!!!! I sometimes wish I would not wake up. No I am not suicidal. I live with a 9 every day except maybe 2 days a week. I sometimes wonder why we suffer and why little baby's suffer to. Family problems when they grow p we are in hopes they go away but it is not that way the only trouble they come back and bring more with them. They are the boomerang children! Guest guest
Hi I have been to 7 neurologist(?sp) and they just send me away. I am so tired of there is nothing we can do we don't see anything wrong with the cage and out the door I go. My fm dr is trying but I am starting to doubt his belief in me. I just want to quit hurting so much every day min and second. I can't even go out and enjoy my self for an evening. I even tried marijuana on time a few people said it helped them, yea, right, I felt every nerve ending in my body and the pain felt like I was carring it on top of my body. Don't want to go down that road again Am Lol Enough of me, how is everything with you? Are you getting along good? I hope so. And I hope your pain is low How often are you in pain?
